Yea not sure why people are acting like worry is unfounded. Guy has reached out twice now for Blazers job and is a finalist. Don't forget all the bad that has happened to the Clippers before...

I don't think anyone can. But to say he's a goner, can't be proved either. No need to react. There is nothing to right now to react to. Jeez, let's wait till a decision is made.

if he signs a contract extension, great! If not so be it. After having Baylor for so many years, anyone could do a better job then he. Move on to the next guy.

Neil couldn't even win EOY by bringing in CP3, Billups, resigning DJ (which this season doesnt seem like a good sign), traded for Young, brought in Martin and Evans.... made us have the winning percentage in clippers history....

No wonder he wants to leave lol

Instead of posting, we need to send EMAILS and CALL the office. Does anyone know how to get our opinion INTO the Clippers FO instead of just online?

DTS IS SUCH AN IDIOT SOMETIMES I WANT TO SCREAM AT HIS FACE.

Btw, if I wrote an email, I wouldn't yell... I would write logical reasons why we need to keep Neil Olshey.

BUT If we keep Vinny and Neil goes... ****!!!

DTS is a moron if he allows Olshey to leave. This is one of the largest markets in the United States and he's been a major factor in WHY we are where we are right now, and only BETTER things are to come.

I think we would all feel better about Olshey possibly leaving, if we had an owner who is basketball savvy, not a cheap bast...d, and capable of finding an adequate or even better replacement. Instead, we have DTS, who is good at finding prostitutes and people to sue him for being a racist jerk. Where are you now.......Jerry West?

Of course none of this would be happeing if DTS had done the right thing and simply extended the contract of a GM who, on balance, did a great job in just about every move he made. In fact, he may be the best GM the Clippers have ever had. Why isn't he already signed, sealed, and delivered.

You're right, JamFan. It shouldn't even have come to this.

I forget which thread, but some people were asking earlier to name one thing DTS has done wrong in the last 5 years. This is one of them. The only real excuse that I've heard for letting Olshey interview w/ the Blazers is that DTS can get a price quote and match it. If he wasn't so cheap, and wanted to prove that he's fully turned the corner, then why not talk to Olshey and offer him something that Olshey thinks is fair, staight up and without wasting time. That's a way to reward the man for being one of the top GM's we've ever had. Maybe the best, but my knowledge doesn't go beyond Baylor. Reward the man, Donald!!!

So when do we expect to see the title of this thread to be changed to "Neil Olshey hired by Portland"?

Olshey did a great job picking up the pieces after Dunleavy left. It's to his benefit that he is now a "free agent" and can maximize his earnings elsewhere.

DTS should have locked him up so now he has to pay more than he would have last year. Portland has 2 lottery picks and a bunch of talent so if he did leave, he would be going to a good situation and getting more $$$.

At this point, it wouldn't shock me if he left.

It would shock me. The playoff team we have in place is his what he's credited with. Unless Portland is going to make him one of the highest paid GM's in the league he'll still be here. Although I believe he did a great job for us I don't completely credit him for all that transpired. Again not any kind of knock on Neil, But the CP3 trade was a given, although I give him credit for keeping Bledsoe. I don't believe Caron signed here because of him, I don't think Kenyon signed here because of him, We got lucky with Chauncey, and I believe if anyone on this board was GM of the Clips at that time they would've picked up Billups.Picking up Reggie was a great move and I give him credit for picking up NY. Regardless he'll be here next year

Olshey isn't going anywhere for one it doesn't seem he's the favorite for the Blazers job(because of his agents history with Portland two is I'm pritty sure he doesn't wanna leave the Clippers after all the hard work he's put in putting the team together.

And of course Sterling would probably match and re-sign Olshey the sooner the better though.

There's no way he goes though I don't think DTS is that dim witted

LOL So you don't want to give him too much credit but according to you, Olshey is the reason why we have:

ERIC BLEDSOE

REGGIE EVANS

CHAUNCEY BILLUPS (that was Olshey, look it up) who was responsible

for KENYON MARTIN

NICK YOUNG

FIVE PLAYERS that he was responsible for. FIVE.

And you don't want to give him too much credit? when he finished in the Top 3 for Executive of the year and assembled one of the greatest teams in Clipper history in 30 years, if not the greatest.

I say he deserves to be here more than Vinny.

Prokreation. Again I believe getting Chauncey was a good move, but check it- the knicks put him on waivers and we picked him up off waivers. If I'm not mistaken, we happened to be in line to claim him. So to an extent, we got lucky. I don't believe that was neccisarily a super shrewed move on his part. In additionI believe Kenyon coming to the Clips was probably more Billups than Olshey. And don't forget this time last year pretty much everyone on here was saying he was a horrible GM for signing Gomes and Foye. But on the flipside I do give him credit for keeping Bledsoe out of the CP3 trade, signing Reggie and the trade for NY was a very good move. Look I think he's a good GM and has a good synergy with the team. But he's not a top 5 or so GM. And I don't think he should neccesarily be paid like one. Yes I'd like him to stay and because his salary does not count against the cap then I'm cool with it.

When you're saying "We" picked him up off waivers. Did YOU pick him up? No Olshey picked him up off waivers. You have to go GET the player.

And yes, Chauncey brought in Kenyon.

He's not a Top 5 GM just because YOU say so? Even though he finished TOP 3 as Executive of the year this year? And some say he should have finished #1.

Yup... Totally screwed that Clippers are going to fu**ing let Olshey walk. I'm seriously wondering if I will support the team anymore for doing that. Just so immoral and incredibly uncool. Olshey worked his fu**ing ass off to turn this team around and without him we wouldn't be where we are.

Repped High Quality Post
Eh, not too worried. I don't like the idea of long term contracts for GMs. That's what caused the Clips so many problems with DUN. If Olshey wants to go to depressing Portland where good GMs go to die (ie, Prichard, Cho, etc) then fair enough. He's going for the money, which is fine. But Portland really should just keep whomever managed to come up with the Wallace trade. Now that was Gasol level robbery. Frugality is not a bad thing for an NBA team. Money should be spent on the court, not in management, and they should be easily fired when....

Skip it back to the 11:08 time or so.. and you'll hear them talk about Olshey with Ramona Shelborne. She's even ripping the team.

Ramona has such great points. She said Chris Paul is very fond of Olshey and Olshey was the guy who really sold Paul on the Clippers and fu**ing Sterling is too stupid to realize he's going to run CP3 out of the door.

It's not about how good Olshey is or not. It's about not rocking the boat. The franchise is in a state of flux and turning a new page and if the GM gets the job done nicely you keep him. If not just for the sake of stability. By next year Blake Griffin will likely have his 4th head coach in 4 seasons for example. Not the right way to build a franchise. Sterling needs to have a mentality of doing it the right way the first time.

Not to nitpick about that article, but it says Olshey was the 2012 NBA executive of the year. That's incorrect. It was Larry Bird. Aside from that, the article does nothing but speculate.

So we're supposed to keep Vinny for stability but not Olshey? I know I know, he hasn't been let go (yet) and he doesn't coach. But he's done a good job and should be rewarded.

People need to think of it... as if you were the employee Olshey is. If you did a stellar job and finished ranked 3rd for your position among 130+ media professionals as being the best and your boss showed no urgency or strong interest in keeping you long term.. how would you feel?

sfernald

I think the reality is this is an ugly part of the business. There's no team in the league more unstable management wise than the blazers. From what I've read it seems doubtful Olshey will be selected by Portland anyway. Unless you hear that Olshey has fired his agent; then it's a done deal.

Olshey is in demand because he's good, and through this process, though it appears ugly to us fans, his fair value will be ascertained. I am not the betting man but i would wager that chances are probably 75% in our favor that we retain Olshey. Portland is such a mess who knows what they are going to do.

Clippersfan86

Sf that's not the point. Sure Olshey may not get the Portland job and return here by default just as he did last year without a deal but it's NOT RIGHT. He needs a 3-4 year deal immediately if the Clippers are serious about continuing the upswing. Hell even give him a freaking 2 year deal. He's already proven he's not Dunleavy 2.0. He's the ultimate rep of the franchise with his great communication and sales tactics.

As Ramona said... it's more the issue of why even risk him leaving even if it's unlikely? If he stays I'm willing to bet Sterling still doesn't offer the guy a contract and he is the GM again next year without a contract, only to interview for other jobs next year. It's a never ending cycle and it's total malpractice. It's unethical and if Sterling wants to shed the bad rap... he needs to start by giving Olshey a multi year deal.

maybe olshey decided to stall on the clips and found that portland gig a bit more enticing.

they're gonna have a revamped roster next year, revolving around aldridge. cap space to work with and 2 picks in the top 11, 2 in the early 2nd round. (in a very deep draft).

Hypothetical conversation:

Neil Olshey's Agent: "OK, Donald... we're gonna be looking at 5 years at $5,000,000 per year to retain Neil's services"

DTS: "No way, Agent... I was thinking more like 3 years at $1,000,000 per year"

Agent: "But you gave Dunleavy 4/22mil"

DTS: "Yes I did, and look where THAT got me... times have changed"

Agent: "Well, your offer is insulting... Neil can do way better in Portland"

DTS: "I'm not so sure he can... he's already interviewed, and didn't get the job"

Agent: "Come on now, Donald... you know he's a finalist for the job there"

DTS: "I'll go 3 years @ 1.5mil"

Agent: "4 years for 18mil... final offer... you know the media and fans will crucify you if you let Neil go"

DTS: "Tell you what... you go talk to Portland and see what they're prepared to offer... I guarantee I'll better the offer"

Agent: "OK, but I can't make any promises Neil won't sign with them"

DTS: "That's fine, Agent... but we're a contender here, and he'll make more money... I'll leave it with you"

2 weeks later...

Agent: "Portland's offering 5 years at 2mil per year"

DTS: "I'll give him 4 years at 2.5mil per year"

Agent: "Pleasure doing business with you"

OR...

Agent: "He didn't get the Portland job"

DTS: "How does 3 years at 1.5mil per year sound NOW?"

Agent: "Pleasure doing business with you"

Can anyone tell me why that sounds so far fetched?
