Chris Mannix ‏@ChrisMannixSI

Vinny Del Negro will return to LA but there will be changes on his staff. Assistant coach Dean Demopoulus will not return, sources tell SI

Might we finally be getting some legit coaching staff? maybe time to bring in that guy in GS, the defensive wizard assistant coach.

And +1 to Ivaroni being next.

I have a feeling they are going to go after supposed defensive guru Mike Malone whom CP3 asked for personally supposedly this week.

Defense wasn't as bad as the stagnant offense towards the end of games at times.

How about anyone on this forum as the defensive coach? I think we could all do better.

Not true. The stagnant offense was the 4th ranked offense in the NBA (1st with Billups) and the defense was 18th. I agree it got stagnant but more time to build chemistry and a couple upgrades will fix that. To fix defense we need a defensive guru assistant.

NP boss. Just wanted to let you know so you didn't think I was trying to correct you or step on toes lol . I'm not anal or anything... just know many people will say "Who the hell is Dean Demopoulus?" lol.

Yup. Better defense= more transition offense which plays to the strength of our players. More steals, more blocks= more offense.

Dab0yech0 posted this on another forum which made me say outloud.. WTF???

"One of my boys who's interning and assists Jason Powell on the medical staff told me that this whole last season, Howard Eisley was the guy who was teaching DJ post moves most of the time. How in the hell is a journey man PG who was a backup his whole life gonna teach post moves to Blake and DJ?? It sure as hell showed".

Joe this is a good example of why I said much of DJ's failures is on coaches. If he's having a PG work on his post game with him, we are in trouble. Get Patrick Ewing NOW.

Excuse me if I don't take the word of some guy on a message board starting out his scoop with, "One of my boys who's interning and assists".

I might be wrong, but I don't think the medical staff has interns. I could be wrong. I doubt interns are allowed to travel.

Regardless he's known for his defense and is a defensive coordinator.

What we need is a new coach to coach Vinny so Billups and CP3 can concentrate on playing rather than coaching.

i remember when Demopoulus was hired everyone was excited because he himself was a "defensive wizard".

Whatever the case, I agree that DJ will develop better if we get a real big man's coach. I'm looking for one go-to post move, a counter to that move, and better discipline on defense.

Back to our new D-Coordinator. I'd love it if we could get CP3's man, Malone. It's a nice opportunity to cater to CP3 without going out of our way; because simultaneously, this move also caters to the bigger picture of improving our team as a whole.

We need 3 new great assistant coaches to hide all the faults of VDN. But in the end its still Vinny Driving this boat off the Cliff..

This is an important decision to make since there are a lot of things we can improve upon in our defense. We can do a better job defending pick and rolls (at least we have E Bled), staying home/running out to defend the 3 pt line, and pretty much everything down low regarding Blake and DJ. Both those dudes need to communicate more, rotate better, box out and secure defensive rebounds, etc, etc. etc. etc.... Mad

Dean Demopoulos (born March 29, 1954) is an American collegiate and professional basketball coach. He currently is an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers.

[edit]Early career

Demopoulos graduated in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in comprehensive social sciences from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He began his coaching career at Kennett High School in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.[1] In 1983, he became an assistant to John Chaney at Temple University, a post he held until 1999. During that span, the Owls became a national basketball powerhouse, amassing a 393-151 (72.2%) record and making it to the NCAA Tournament 16 times and to the Elite Eight on four occasions.[1]

[edit]NBA coaching career

After one year as head coach at the University of MissouriKansas City, Demopoulos became lead assistant to Nate McMillan for the Seattle SuperSonics.[1] In 2005, Demopoulos moved with McMillan to the Portland Trail Blazers while retaining his position as lead assistant.[2] Demopoulos is known as an expert in zone defenses having years of experience with the famed Temple zone defense.

In 2010, Demopoulos was hired as an assistant under Vinny Del Negro for the Los Angeles Clippers.[3]

He was one of Vinny's Hires....

The Asian and hispanic dudes u see at the end of the Clipper benches? interns. The bald hispanic guy that you used to see shag balls in the ClipperTV videos? Intern. The Argentenian guy is the only guy I do not know personally. I know all the other guys.

Most of the people who work for the Clippers are on an internship. Its Sterling's way of doing business. Go ask em all yourself next time your at a Clipper game ask how much they are getting paid lol

Maybe we should have kept Kim Hughes- not to say Eisley is not a good big man coach or anything but I'd feel more comfortable with a guy like Kim who's worked with Kaman working w/ DJ.

In the end we have ZERO ideal what kind of effect these coaches have on the team since we only get to see them gameday in suits & on the bench. We don't know what tendencies they have, how they practice, how they communicate, etc.

It's all blind criticism.
