All of those people defending VDN and Sterling... Where are they now? This organization is toxic

You sir, lack comprehension skills. Olshey was going to get the same money here and he still leaves.

By the way, don't let the door hit you on the way out. This team is too toxic for you.

Maybe the Clippers should have been proactive and gotten the deal done instead of just matching. Neil went where they really wanted him. The Clippers didn't want him.

They were proactive and did get the deal done. What did you think the statement and press conference were for? Olshey lied his way out of town, just like Elton Brand did, plain and simple.

The Clippers wanted Neil. Neil apparently wanted Portland, despite all the rhetoric about how the Clippers were a destination now, not a stepping stone. Good riddance to bad garbage... let's bring in someone better now.

Well, Portland didn't want him last season, right? And didn't Olshey agree with the Clippers on Friday? We put in the first offer so we were proactive. It was Olshey who went back on his word. Even then, we were still willing to match. Good riddance. Hopefully he makes it out of his first season.

They were in no way proactive. The guy worked the last year on a month to month contract. The Clippers only went to get something done after he became a finalist in Portland.

I'm happy for Olshey going to a class organization.

Well, I saw a team tanking this season. I saw a lot of turmoil with the players and coach. I saw a owner use his GM's as scapegoats. I saw unhappy players. So yeah, I guess they'd do whatever to win.

Anyone know what available GMs are out there and their history with the league? Maybe we should hire Sloan as GM for the season so he can slide right into coaching next season once Vinny's gone lol.

You saw a team willing to make changes when changes were needed. The Clippers kept a coach that nobody believed should have the job, including Neil. Neil was right to leave. He wasn't the one calling the shots. It's Roeser running the show and Neil was just the face.

I'm not really sure how you can defend the Clippers franchise that has never done things the right way. No other team in the league had their GM working on a month to month contract and you know the problems run much deeper than that.

haha well said.

Btw, I lost all the respect i had for the guy because he obviously had unfinished business here and he should have stayed since we matched. I'm just hoping our next GM is legit.

It makes me feel a little better that we actually tried to matched, but according to what i've read so far, it seems like the clippers agreed in principal to a deal that would extend Olshey for 1 year. Just like anyone, Olshey probably wanted a long term contract, and IMO deserved one (at least a 3-4 year). These guys want to feel appreciated especially after they perform well, not just: "here's a 1 year deal, if you can get anything better we'll match it" . You just dont do that to the 3rd ranked GM of the year when your team actually has a lot of new found momentum. SMH still.

Preach, Joe. Everyone on here who thinks that losing Neil Olshey is the end of the Clippers just needs to calm down.

I just don't get it. With or without Neil, we are a destination team now. And hell, what if CP3 does bolt after next year? Bledsoe/Blake/DJ are still going to be a core that will pull some other high-level talent by themselves.

And God forbid, if they don't? We'll still be better then the 19-win team of a few years ago. I'm happy about that, you?

God, I gotta stop reading this site until something important happens.

Sterling dragged on the situation with oshley way too long, it should have been addressed before the whole vinny situation, being paid month to month basis is a slap to the face

If you only knew the definition of the term. I would have had to be held hostage in the first place, or in context, made to cheer for the Clippers to have any relevance.

Poor fella, you were probably waiting eagerly to find a reason to use that term.

You no doubt started off as a fan. You're probably in LA. You are probably one of the poor simps that Sterling preys on. He's taken your mind hostage w/o you even realizing it. And now u love him.Its so sad

I agree, its not the end of the world, but you have to be completely jaded to not realize that this is a pretty big negative.

  1. Might send the wrong message to our players.

  2. We had a good thing going, with a lot of momentum why risk messing with that?

  3. The biggest negative, is it gives the impression (whether true or not) that the clippers are not a good org to work for. Its so bad that our upstart GM , who has a break out year walks away from a talented team. THAT SETS US BACK. We will probably get killed in the media for it, and it will inevitably knock our rep down a couple notches after we finally built it up a little.

Lol, did you really just call them a classy organization?

When I think of The Jail Blazers I just laugh, they are the same team who passed up on not only Kevin Durant, but also Michael Jordan!

No, I saw a team in disarray that had unhappy players going public with their grievances. I also saw a owner firing GM's on a month to month basis too (play on your words).

Neil wanted to leave toi Portland last off-season when his claim to fame was Brain Cook, Gomes, and Foye. So what do you pay a inexperienced GM like him? How many years do give a GM like that? Fact is, Portland didn't want him last year either so it's not like they tried harder.

I'm not sad he's gone, I am just presenting the other side.

Any chance we can grab John Paxson now? At least we'll get UFC fights between him and VDN when we're in a losing streak.

I have no idea what the players think. I'm not a mind-reader, and I'm not going to play Stephen A. Smith or Skip Bayless and try to psychoanalyze them. It's absolutely pointless.

Kloss, chill out, man. There's lots of old school fans here who aren't being "held hostage" by anyone. Fans are fans. You can be unhappy with a decision and voice it calmly, and you can be satisfied with a decision that might seem wrong because you don't know what the repercussions for that decision are. It's the difference between being level-headed and flying off the handle. Brain washing, cheap skating, and all those other buzzwords have nothing to do with it.

I don't think so. Olshey went to Portland last off-season looking for a job. Coincidence that he finally got there? Don't think so.

Joe, weren't you the one trying to convince us that all parties, including Olshey, were in agreement with VDN coming back?

Also, Olshey & Portland's HC Canales share the same agent, so I'm sure that's part of the decision to look at Portland. Anyways, if the Clippers truly wanted to keep Olshey, why wait so damn long to do it? We had this whole year to lock him up. And instead of matching Portland, why not go above and beyond their offer? Seems like DTS tried to be cost-effective again, and it cost him.

No. I assumed that until you said Olshey wanted Casey. I said I didn't remember that but I said I would take your word on it. this was just a few days ago.

Quote:

Why? Maybe his track record before the season started? He had Cook, Gomes, and Foye as his major acquisitions. Oh, and the unprotected pick that led to the Rookie of the year for a salary dump...Knowing there was a big chance a amnesty clause would be implemented in the new CBA.

Lets not forget he was also trying to get a job in Portland before CP3 arrived. Portland had no interest or any other team for that matter.

But here is the most important part:

Olshey verbally agreed to a deal. Why would he continue seeking other avenues when he committed to us? Fact is, Olshey is not a man of his word and frankly, why would you want someone like that?

Olshey had his eyes set on Portland. I wouldn't pass it by him that he used the Clippers to get Portland moving. If he really wanted to stay here, he should have accepted the match from the Clippers. Why sweeten the pot? He agreed to a previous deal only to go back on his word. Why would you offer more than Portland after all that? He can have Portland now. They love GM's in Portland.
