"I liked Clipperland. I liked the movement," Billups said. "I thought before I got hurt we really had fun and were playing great. I liked it a lot, but of course I would be crazy not to entertain any other offers that I might have. That's the fun of being a free agent."

Good. I didnt want him back TBH. Young and Evans should be only returning players.

This doesn't mean he wants to go. This is what almost EVERY player, except for Tim Duncan recently, says. It's the best way to be PC about, to just remain noncommittal. You don't want a guy to say I loved it I'm for sure coming back, and then something comes up and he leaves and he looks bad. If I had to guess, he probably is happy here and wants to stay, but if a better opportunity arises, he'd be open to leaving. I still think he stays in the end, and he's probably leaning toward it too, but there's nothing wrong with keeping your options open. That's all he's saying.

Well that's not the news I wanted to hear. I really hope he comes back. He's a winner and we were better with Chauncey than without him.

^This isn't news. He's a free agent, and he said he likes the Clippers but wants to keep his options open. Very few free agents will outright say "I'm not even going to look around, I'm staying here." Especially when in Chauncey's case, the team may decide to look in other directions even if he wants to come back. What if Chauncey says "I'm not looking anywhere else I only want to be here" and then the Clippers re-sign Nick Young and sign Ray Allen and there's no room for Chauncey here? This is how the NBA works. Don't read into this as "Chauncey wants to leave." I think this is pretty much what was expected from him: that he likes it here, would probably like to return, but knows he should keep his options open because there are plenty of other possibilities. If anything, I liked this story because he made a point of saying how much he liked being a Clipper. That's a good sign.

^True. It also helps his end of negotiations with the team. Not perfect for us, but who can blame him? ...just the way things are done.

Personally, I like having him around... but not for much more than the $2mil he was getting. If some other team wants to gamble on his health/age, I'm OK with letting him go where he wants to be. Hopefully, he'll give us the "unfinished business" discount.

Time for FAs to talk their talk,,but it's time for FO to show if they are really going to step up or not.

Posted this on the Chauncy Billups interview thread since it seemed relevant when he mentioned FA in the interview. Not sure why this needed a new thread though. Smile

Overreact much?

You wanted Billups to give up all leverage and give DTS more power to low ball him? Get real dude, use your brain.

Not at all. Due to cap reasons and my doubts about his injury I was hoping we would let him go. I WANT him to test free agency.

What's the status of his partial bird rights? If they're intact, we could go over the cap to sign him so it wouldn't effect our cap situation.

He will stay if we pay otherwise he'll go a way and for two million he won't play.

Our team should be well over 0.5 in Jan. He's gonna screw the pooch when he returns. He'll try to fix something that ain't broke.

The players will likely lose the case. Which means no bird rights at all.

Billups is saying he's WAY ahead of schedule and will be in training camp and playing all 82 games. Says he's way ahead of the January return time.

"I'm excelling at an unbelievable level," said Billups in a phone interview. "I'm far ahead of schedule. It's going great; I can't complain at all. I don't know percentage-wise, but I'm functional now. I can move around good. I can't go run and jump, but I can be in the gym and shoot. I can't go side to side like I would like. But I'm far ahead of schedule, and it's going good. "I plan on being ready by training camp. I heard all of these reports that (I'll) be back by January (2013) and all of that. I'm like, nah, that's the regular dude that would have gotten hurt, not me. I'm planning on playing all 82 games."

The clips are gonna do in the end what it takes to keep him. If for any other reason by appeasing cp3 and keeping his "big Brother around. Everything they do will have cp3 in mind this year. I see them ending up with allen/cp3/billups and running a 3 guard rotation to get all three minutes. If bledsoe is still around he'd play limited minutes. As much as we want it to eb about what makes us happy. It is all about keeping paul happy and letting chauncey walk away would not make him happy. If overpaying chauncey/odom to play off the bench is whats gonna make cp3 happy it is what they will do.

Seriously you want an inconsistent shooter and a man that cant hit an open layup. over a finals mvp Who just happens to be close friends with our all star point guard we are trying to convince to resign. Better off with odom over reggie and billups/bledsoe off the bench over young.

I hope the clippers go the ray allen route first, billups is not a traditional 2 and is not a better spot up shooter than allen.

Hopefully (75-90% chance IMO), Young, Martin, Williams, Gomes, Foye and Simmons are gone from the roster, into the sunset and replace with better role players. IMO, It's 50-50 on Billups and I won't be upset if he leaves with age and that injury on his side.

You don't need "Stars" just NBA average or better players at their respective positions to go along with the real stars of the team. That's why I like some of the names mentioned by some posters via trades or FA...Marvin Williams, Dalembert (back up to DJ), Danny Green, Ray Allen, Odom just to name a few.

Exactly all the role players we had this past year were overrated and one dimensional. billups/bledsoe are the only one's who brought anything significant to the team Eben in that case alot of clippers fan's over value bledsoe. period all the role player need to go outside of billups. bledsoe needs to be traded as well. clips can get a true backup shooting guard for him. olshey loved him so much send him to pd for w mathews. And sign people like odom/anthony randolph and ray allen that will play for less money then these guys and can play multiple positions and do multiple things.

I think Evans is the kind of roll player who "must" return also.

^ if you get odom you can't bring back evans as well both play the 4. Odom can do so much more then evans can.

For the $ amount I would...Odom can play 3 positions, so both could be on the court at the same time. More of a good thing is better, IMO.

I dont wanna see/evans/kmart/foye/mo/gomes back under any situation. Billups i want back and young if we need a backup 2/3 and he's reasonable

you can bring in allen and bilups. 3 man rotation use bledsoe (or whoever you can get for bledsoe) as a filler

Billups...maybe. I'd take Evans over Young. We can get better bang for buck player than Young.

I'll name better players than Young for less $, if you can name better roll players than Evans for the $ he'll command. 8)

better is relative. Nobody is gonna be better then him as a rebounder. But a 12 yer old can do everything else better. Plus just rather have odom there at 2-4 mil then reggie at that price. Because you can get a decent 3 that will give you more at the 3 then reggie at the four. Anthony randolph is one and minn gonna let him walk.

  1. I believe Randolph will definitely required more than the vet min, which I think we can get Evans for.

  2. Randolph is a 4 who sometimes can play the 3, not very good though IMO.

  3. This is Gomes part deux (who's real position was PF and the numbers bear that out), who also played out of his real position with us. By the way he came from Minny also, j/k.

Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't think so.

Just saying there is a reason evans has moved around so much. he limits you on offense. if you trade mo/gomes you have more money to give a sf like cj miles. you clear that 12.5 mil to those two and you can get three players like asik/odom/miles to play those three positions for that. Role players are going to get paid less now with the new CBA . Nobody is going to want to hit the tax now. all more rounded then evans. and then you still have the mle to get ray allen. It just makes more sense You dont get evans unless you cant move mo. which im sure somebody is gonna take him. odom is best at the 4. we need somebody athletic at the 3. this was one of or biggest weaknesses last yr. So that leaves evans at the 5 and he is too undersized. we can speculate all we want but unless mo and gomes are gone we will only have money to use the mle and resign our own players cheap.. which will lead to the second round again and cp3 gone.

Yes Evans has moved around a bit and he is a one trick pony...but a productive trick pony at that, who I would be willing to ride cause I think the price will be right. But we can agree to disagree on this. We do agree on the main thing...we need some better role players.

Oh and by the way....Randolph, if he leaves Minny, it will be with his 4th club at the tender age of 23. wink

Billups won his court case today. He has Bird Rights. He can be signed for as much as the MAX.

I really hope we can keep him. Hopefully nobody offers him north of the midlevel. If all his offers are around there or below, I think we can sign him for 3-4mil.

We are totally fkd with Billups people! We're either gonna have to pay him 17 against our cap space or 21 mil with his bird rights. Since he was amnestied, we only gave him 2 of the 14 mil he was owed when we signed him, so if we want to resign him, he have to give him 21 mil with his bird rights, for it not to count against our cap!
