The Lakers and the Celtics have the two most storied franchises in the history of the NBA and pro basketball as a whole. Lakers are getting a big whiff of reality that Kobe is really starting to near the end of his career, Pau Gasol just isn't cutting the mustard and Andrew Bynum is going to cost an arm and a leg to retain next year, so they are trying to get Dwight Howard.
Howard, could join a team that has had 3 of the greatest Centers to play for their franchise ( Jabbar, Chamberlain & Shaq ) and continue a tradition of amazing players going to join the ranks of the Lakers to help keep the championships rolling in.
Funny thing is, Dwight says NO to the Lakers. Dwight would probably hardly get touches in Laker-Land as Kobe will suck the ball into his hands like a vacuum and kill Dwight's touches.
Lakers are in big trouble. Yes, keeping their current team together even if it's Pau and Kobe and Bynum walks next year this is STILL a playoff team, but it's looking more and more like the end of an era and I think Laker ownership does not want to deal with multiple years of Ho-Hum basketball like it did after the loss to the Bulls in the 91 NBA Finals and Magic's sudden retirement. Before of course, the arrival of Shaq and Kobe.
CP3 trade didn't happen, they had no cap to go after Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Joe Johnson etc a few years ago, Griffin is locked up for 6 more years, D Wills and Dwight Howard will only play for Dallas or Brooklyn, Rose & Durant just signed extensions with their respective teams, Melo is a Knick for life it would seem so the best thing the Lakers can do, is rip another team off and land the #1 pick in the draft again to get that superstar player they can groom.
I'm not saying we'll be better than they are, or were going to take over LA, or the Lakers are going to suck... I just find it funny that nobody is wanting to go there and they are in panic mode it seems.
I'd keep Bynum and try to trade Gasol for something or draft picks. Bynum is the future, not attempting to trade him for someone that doesn't want to be there.
