Chauncey has already told the world he wants to stay with the Clippers. CP3 said that bringing him back is a high priority. The fans at TopBuzz voted him their #1 target to sign in free agency. Now, the LA Times is reporting that Clipper executives expect Chauncey to sign a 4Mil offer for one year even though he might not be available until January.

I think this is already a done deal.

I also think it is possible that they could have a deal working with Nick Young but are reluctant to make any announcements about resigning their own players until one of their free agent targets like Jamal Crawford, Ray Allen, or Courtney Lee are signed sealed and delivered. Then they will announce.

I agree absolutely with everything you just said. Chauncey and Lamar can be our veteran leadership. Other than that, go with the youth movement. Get Nick Young and Courney Lee on board and we are on our way. Toss in a 7' center who can shoot free throws and we are good to go.

Hey, how about all of the early morning posters who are so excited that we are on TopBuzz at 7am on a holiday.

The CB deal hinges on bonuses. Probably for stats and games played so it is probably less then the 4 mil. He won't be available until January so he may not hit all the bonuses.

CP3 should get exec money for bringing others in, oh wait he's gonna get 5yr 110mil next year. That should count towards his recruiting expenditures.

Or exec of the year lol

By the way if the Clips front office does get exec of the year(even tho I think Billy King will win it).....who would accept it? VDN, Roeser or Sacks? Or would they accept it as a collective committee? Would be kinda weird.

How about Jordan Hill, that guy is indeed a center as well. He can play both PF and C! He provides inside presence off the bench and good offensive rebounding!

regarding jordan hill, not sold on his character. you need high level character guys to win championships. plus he might be out of our price range. what centers can we acquire that have size and can hit ft's. ian mahinmi?

I think there was never any risk of Billups leaving the team. Now re-singing Nick Young and a pick of Courtney Lee would be really sick. I haven't heard any talk about us pursuing him though. Heard lots of talk about a Ray Allen pick and starting position which in my mind and as my last posts show that I'm all for. Leaning a little more towards Lee now though just because he's younger and can deliver for the team for years to come. Ray Allen could help us out a great deal but would probably be gone after one year. Who do you guys think we should pick up for a back up center?

I'd take Mahinmi in a heartbeat. He's a willing defender and a decent athlete. His offensive game better than people think and is still developing. Best of all he's a good FT shooter. Hopefully he can be signed relatively cheap cause I'd do it for sure. Plus, he's a player with a ring. Even if someone wasn't an integral part of a championship team.........they still understand the experience better than a player who hasn't done it. I think that kind of stuff is important.

No on Big Shot. No on Crawford. No on Jesus Shuttlesworth. Sign Courtney Lee and retain Swaggy P. NY's defense was 100 times better last year than it ever was with the Wiz on D. He's not great, but I think he's coming around. He just needs to be willing and better than Mo. Not too tough. With EB, Courtney Lee, Swaggy P, and CP3 the ENTIRE backcourt would be able to defend and make plays on offense.

I agree with your 5 step program, but there would be too much versatility on the team for that to be a depth chart set in stone. Particularly looking at the 3, Butler and Odom would play when there are big bruising 3s opposing us, and Young would play when there isn't a particularly good offensive player on the floor there. Young can also play the 2 guard, and Billups would make a great floor general from time to time. I love the Odom acquisition because he gives us so many different line up options with his ability to effectively guard the 3 and 4 spots, and his ability to move the ball very well.

I am sorry, but I would rather pay someone his age 4 million that didn't just recently have his Achilles tendon torn, I know he has "experience" (I have to admit I think that term is ridiculous), but is it really worth the risk? I can see him becoming soft and everyone on this board mid season asking why he is being paid so much. I just think paying him that much is a little bit risky. I could see us paying him like 1.5-2 million, and even then that seems a little ballsy. Of course this is just one man's opinion, but it just feels like we are doing this to stroke his ego.

Just think what that 4 million could be used for....

Like some of you said I like Mahinmi a lot.His Dallas contract was for 2 yrs($1,646,480).He made 762,195 in 2010 and 884,293 in 2011.But not sure how what he is asking for now.Might be out of the Clippers price range. But if we can afford him I think we should try to get him.

its all good man, we amnesty Gomes and there is our 4 mil. Rather have an 36 billups coming off injury and CP3 happy than not have him and gomes.

I agree it's just crazy giving CB 4 mil a year for a player thats 37 and can't play until January. It's just laughable and a waste of money.

THIS.

Billups will always be one of my favorite players but this is a waste of money. Even if he does come back earlier than he's supposed too, he's not a great option for the 2. The clippers played more games without him then with him and did fairly well (and it's not like we were undefeated with Billups either).

The clippers need a guard who can play D and hit 3's.

Answer: Courtney Lee

The clippers need a backup big that isn't garbage:

Answer: Ian Mahinmi or Jordan Hill

The clippers need a backup 2/3:

There honestly isnt much out there but if the clippers want to get a guy like Gerald Green rather than Bobby Simmons, they should try and be careful with their money.

Basically, the clippers should use that 4 million elsewhere. I mean Chauncey shot below 40% and isn't big enough to defend the bigger Guards and forwards the clippers will face. And he's coming off a major injury.....and he's 36...

I kinda hope some other team offers him something that the clippers wont match. Im sure if the clippers are winning a lot without CB, our "master" Chris Paul will be just fine.

this reminds me of when CP was still a hornet after they made it to the playoffs the management wanted to improve the team but all they could get was old players James Posey, Bonzi Wells, Antonia Daniels they wasted their money on old players and ended up doing worse not to mention giving bad contracts hampered them in the next years. please dont fall in the trap of thinking you can pay for old players and think they will put you over the top especially ones that are coming off an injury. Remember Butler can barely move and play full games why would we ad more of the same?

CB is our only injured player that we're resigning. We don't have any other old players. He guarded LBJ Wade, and KD very well, and he seizes the moment, in crunch time. When we needed a basket he was the answer not Foye or someone else. Stop the hating!

I think all Clipper fans should start collectively praying that Dwight Howard goes to the Nets because if he doesn't he's going to be a Laker and that's not good. (Dwight,Kobe,Pau,Nash) not good at all.

Why do you keep mentioning this guarding Durant, Lebron and Wade well? It's not like of one put Billups on the consistently they wouldn't tear him up, stop mentioning it, it isn't very relevant to anything.

I know this'll sound bad, but at this point I'd take NY over Billups. I think the team needs people that don't spend time in the training room. It sucks, but Chauncey's days are pretty much numbered IMO. Achilles injury this late in your career? It's curtains. He'll never be the same.........and that's assuming that he plays without getting injured again. Even giving him the benefit of the doubt isn't worth 4 million right now.

chauncey didn't even jump while playing before the achilles injury, and he won't need to jump after either. his game is low to the ground, he'll be fine.

It doesn't sound that bad. NY is 3 sniper and pretty good defender due to his length. But don't pass up on CB, he's coming back strong!

I would rather have Young over Billups also.Billups has a very high basketball IQ and CP3 likes playing with him but at this point with all the uncertainty I rather have Young who isn't as crafty or versatile as Billups but we know what we are getting with him.He has size, can play the 3 if needed, his defense is improving and we know he can shoot. There are too many questions with Billups at this point. If we can get Young and Billups/Allen I would be happy. If we can get Young and Lee I will be even happier haha.I would even be glad if we sign Young/Lee and Crawford. But Billups and Allen's age and health are huge deal breakers IMO.Of course both are great player even at this stage of their career but all the skill in the world doesn't matter if your body can't take it anymore.

I wouldn't mind having Chauncey back. The primary reason why the FO wants him back is make CP3 happy. Blake and DJ BFF and CP3 and Chauncey BFF, haha.

What's the word on his recovery process? I heard from somewhere (forgot where) that he's ahead of schedule and wants to come back before the season started, instead of next January.

Not sure if that's possible but that would be awesome if he could do it.

Look man, if the Clippers choose to bring back Billups.......then so be it. I like Big Shot a lot. But he's not my first choice for off-season moves. I know what he brings to the table.

But to say he'll be fine because he doesn't jump much? I think you should into the biomechanics of running and cutting a little closer before making claims like that.
