Although it may seem like the Clippers are just going to settle for one 2 guard free agent this summer because they only have the Mid level exception to offer, I believe that the Clippers' have a different plan. As you might know, the Clippers have contacted Jamal Crawford, Ray Allen, Courtney Lee, Chauncey Billups, and probably Nick Young and Randy Foye. In the cases of Ray Allen, Jamal Crawford, and Courtney Lee, it is assumed that all the Clippers have to offer is the Middle Level Exception. However, if the Clippers were willing to spend the money, they could in fact take advantage of the new CBA and get two of those three players AND possibly re-sign some of their own players!

Here is how: Currently the Clippers are about .9 million dollars under the salary cap. Of course, that is not enough to sign anyone that the Clippers are going after. However, IF the Clippers were to use the Amnesty Clause and amnesty Ryan Gomes and his 4 million dollar contract, the Clippers would have about 5 million dollars to spend on a free agent in addition to the MLE. The Clippers to have that cap space would have to renounce their rights to chauncey billups and have their other free agents sign with other teams so as to not have their cap holds anymore. If the Clippers were to renounce all of their players however, the Clippers would lose their Full MLE and thus cannot do that. After Billups is renounced, the Clippers could then sign Courtney Lee for about 4 years 20 million, and Ray Allen with the MLE, and Chauncey Billups with the Bi Annual Exception and have a roster like this:

pg: Paul, Bledsoe

sg: Allen, Billups

sf: Butler, Lee

pf: Griffin, Odom

c: DJ, Thompkins

That team would be amazing. Hopefully our 3-headed GM group can get this done!

I know he's long and fairly athletic, and I'm sure on paper it looks like he can pull it off...........but Trey isn't a 5. Don't count on Lee. Not looking good there. Looking pretty old at the 2. Leslie's not ready to fill in when Allen/Billups are hurt. Swaggy P's probably a more realistic option than Lee, and he's not really a 3. He can play it, but...

Im glad some have realized how dynamic Ray Allen's addition would be.

Hopefully he's serious and they can afford him.

I like Billups, but he's not worth 4mil when he wont even probably play till Jan.

If they could sign Allen and NY, VDN couldnt even screw that up. If everyone could stay healthy, that team would dominate.

One thing that should be a concern is DJ. He doesnt hit the boards enough and is foul prone. Who is his backup?

If Kobe could agree to get Nash to sign with the Lakers, why has CP3 not succesfully pulled off something? Smile

Dream finish to off-season would be the Clips trading for Al Jefferson, Manu Ginobli, or another impact player. even though the Odom situation made our team better, we still need something else significant

The bi annual is for a backup C. Lee can't play the 2! It comes down to Lee or Allen at the 2, since we're already signing Billups!

Was it really Kobe,,or was it the fact a 38 year old player was able to finagle a pretty good paycheck with a 3 year contract.

Read Jamal Crawford is leaning towards signing with the Clippers 4year for 21.7 or 3 years 15.7 mill.....

Chris Paul is recruiting Ray Allen...

Boston is strongly considering signing NY to replace Ray Allen...

Clippers have reached out to Courtney Lee

Billups is planning to sign a 1 year deal worth 4.3 if he reaches bonuses

And Clippers have expressed interest in C Ryan Hollins...

Nash said he wanted to compete for a ring while staying relatively close to his kids who are in Pheonix. He said that speaking with Kobe consistanly was also a big part of his decision. And i dont believe money was a big part of it because he was offered 3 yrs. @ 36 mil. from Toronto and ended up accepting 3 yrs. @ 25 mil. from the Lakers

3 years? He's gonna be 41! What are they thinking?

My dream scenario - sign Lee, Crawford, Hollins, and re-sign Billups, amnesty Gomes. I like Ray, but he's getting old and Lee is a better defender without giving up much shooting %.

They're thinking that a 38 yr. old PG who averaged almost 15 points and almost 11 assist on a team last year that did not have a player who averaged over 20 points could be extremely dangerous with them and they are probably right. Even his stats above, are better than any Laker PG since Magic Johnson.

And besides we're looking at a couple of Gaurds who are only 1-2 years younger than he is. And are not as highly touted.

So now they have Nash (who has more MVP's than Kobe) Kobe,Gasol,Bynum and now supposedly looking to add G.Hill. All former all-star starters. They got real lucky with the Nash aquisition.

Is having Allen, Billups, and Young still a possibility? Yes, all three of them.

Ray Allen is someone the Clippers need short term wise. Sure he's old but he's still a solid starting caliber SG. The Clippers already have 2 stars. All they need Allen to do is to drop those 3's provide veteran leadership and help close out games down the stretch.

We got sorta close, got everyone except Lee on my list. Realistically, re-sign Young and amnesty Gomes is most likely, but wouldn't surprise me if we pulled a S&T for a legit backup 3 or 5 with solid defense/rebounding.
