Too bad, JC is the poorest shooter of all the free agents we were considering. Last season, only 38% from the field and a poor 30% from the 3. If the Clippers want to spread the floor for Blake, JC can not consistantly do it.

With the MLE going to Crawford, probably no way to sign Lee at this point right? Anyone confirm that?

Correct. If we used the full MLE on crawford, we are hard capped at $74 mil.

@kevinarnovitz: Crawford makes sense for LAC only in the sense that he's a player who you don't coach, which clearly appeals to Clips.

pretty much lol.

Jamal Crawford is a bigger version of Mo Williams, which is what we needed. We're going to miss Mo's scoring but Jamal is going to make up for it. He's not going to be as good of a shooter, but at least he will be able to play more respectable defense versus shooting guards. He will also be a better finisher at the rim as well. Would a guy like Courtney Lee been a better choice- probably. But Crawford is a very good player and it's great to have him aboard. Nice to see that Chauncey is officially on-board as well.

I do wonder are we still going after Nick Young? Probably don't have the $ now.

Even if we amnesty Gomes we're still over the cap, so probably Lee is out of the picture Sad We can still re-sign Young at $4.4M, probably not a bad idea, gives us two players who can play 2/3 between him and Jamal.

I don't get it. If we really are one of the two teams Allen is considering, and CP is recruiting him, why just bail out of talking to him now? He's clearly a better player than Crawford. I guess the team is worried about putting off Crawford while they work on Allen and then ending up with neither. That's they only reason I can see them going in this direction.

I'm disappointed by this, but not mad. And, although I've never been a huge fan of his, I'm going to try to give Crawford the benefit of the doubt. This will be the best team he's ever played on and maybe it will bring out the best in him.

Jamal Crawford is good but he seems kind of a chucker to me. He is a bit undersized and he has never really impressed me. I guess this year he will get his chance. We need a 2 that can spread out the floor and it seems Jamal stays mostly around the free throw line area and a little bit beyond. I would have rather had Ray Allen, a PURE SHOOTER as opposed to a scorer

Yea if we amnesty Gomes, then we can probably re-sign NY. But other teams free agents are pretty much out of the question now.

Normally I am happy when we make any MOVES and this applies here...I just hope this turns out ok. He has to be that much better than Foye, Mo and Nick Young... he is always a sixth man candidate so who knows if he will come off the bench or start

Wow. The incompetence continues. Crawford is the FA I least wanted. What's wrong with exploring all of their options? Unless the FO knew Ray Allen was ready to sign with Miami, I can never trust these guys in free agent signings. Guess what, this team still DOESN'T have a consistent shooter that will compliment our Big 2. Chauncey probably won't even play until late December or early January. Allen was the top priority, damn it. Not to mention Crawford has not been a starter since his Knicks days.

Well, at least they compounded the problem by letting Reggie and K-Mart walk. Now, there will be very few offensive boards for all of 1-1 casting that's about to happen this year...

Look, I think this boils down to what CP3 wanted. Signing Allen meant that Chauncy becomes expendable. That means Billups comes off the bench, or replaced. No way Allen comes off the bench here. If that was the case, he would have signed with the Celtics already.

While I don't like Crawford all that much, he's still a cheaper, but taller version of Mo Williams. We got what we needed in all of this. We got our stretch 4, we got Billups back, and we got bench player who won the 6th man of the year award.

Maybe we should just be happy that Sterling maxed out to the luxury threshold. We've got a solid team now. From starters to bench.

So all you guys calling Sterling cheap, eat crow!

According to the numbers posted on Hoopshype, we were at 56 Mil if they don't pick up the options on Thompkins and Leslie. Add Chauncey's contract, which is only 4 mil, and we are at 60 Mil. JC's contract doesn't count towards the cap. But we are going to need a couple of cheap players so I think Thompkins and Leslie will definitely return. That would bring us to only 11 players and we still need a backup center. http://hoopshype.com/salaries/la_clippers.htm

Maybe we should check in with EP once more because he is the best at figuring out the numbers.

I don't know what rankings you're talking about here but we were in the middle of the pack in both PPG and PPG allowed, 13th (97.6) and 14th (95.0) respectively. I'm looking at the opposite way. 95.0 allowed is a lot better than scoring 97.6 PPG. We need to score more than 100 PPG, so we actually need to improve our offense more. I mean, a point differential of just above +2 PPG is not championship quality. We need a big gap between PPG and PPG allowed.

Cp3/Bledsoe

Billups/Crawford

Butler/???

Griffin/Odom

DJ/???

We can't have great talent for every spot on our team, but so far, this team looks pretty good. I hope they find a way to re-sign NY to back up Butler. NY could even outplay Butler for that starting SF spot. I don't like Crawford and NY in the same unit, Butler would stabilize that unit.

I don't know what quality big man we can get, but I didn't thing Kenyon Martin did a bad job. He'll get to play with Billups, which is why he signed with us in the first place. He's shorter than I would like at the C back up spot, but he is athletic. He blocked shots and played great defense on those tough scorers no one else could check.

I like what we're building. Our team is far from perfect, but no team is perfect.

What probably happened is both ray and chauncey wanted to start, and jamal is content with coming off the bench so they went with jamal and billups.

Hey Joe, I thought that if they used the ML exemption, that meant it didn't count towards the cap. Am I just confused on that. Explain it to me. Or did they not use the MLE?

Please stop repeating this, they are not the same player. Mo Williams can shoot. Crawford is a chucker. Also, 24 million is not cheap.

I think Lee is pretty much out of the picture at this point.

My best guess is the FO will amnesty Gomes, re-sign Nick Young, make Hollins official, and call it a day. We can still offer NY $4.4M with NBE.

If you cringed everytime Young, Billups, Williams, or Foye missed a shot last season, you are going to cringe a lot this year. Statistically, JC can't shoot as good as any of our SG's last year.

Oh okay. But we still need to improve our a point differential. Just look at the elite teams from last year (the likes of Chicago, OKC, Miami, SA). They averaged at least 6 points per game more than their PPG allowed.

I can only assume that they got word that Allen was essentially a lock to sign with Miami, so they went ahead and locked up Billups and Crawford. I have mixed feelings about this move, but it is good news to know that Chauncey will be back. I'm more frustrated with the fact that Martin and Evans were jettisoned, this means Thompkins is going to have to fill a huge role in the front court rotation next season which I'm not sure he's ready to do. Crawford does bring some valuable abilities to the table, but he's redundant when you consider that Billups is going to be back and that Bledsoe seemed poised to take over Mo's role as the #1 guard off the bench. I still think it's important they find a way to bring Young back, but it certainly doesn't look good now that they've given JC the MLE. All I know is that if Olshey were still in the fold Jamal Crawford almost certainly would not be a Clipper.

our team is looking amazing on paper........3 years ago.

But I am still optimistic! If everyone plays to their potential still a much better team than last year. Our Bench is looking pretty legit. We are not a very young team anymore however, but you know I think we can make it work.

We do have a GREAT balance of young and vets though.

I have a feeling the Crawford signing was a panic signing because of the Fakers' acquisition of Nash. The Clipper FO couldn't wait for one more day to meet with Allen and they were scared that he was gonna sign with Miami.
