Hey all,

Crawford the Bird in Hand

http://www.hoopsworld.com/nba-pm-lakers ... wards-back

Given the progress already made getting Crawford when Lee was restricted - and the uncertainty re: Ray Allen - I like the Jamal get.

Better to make sure you get the player who wants to be there - than fool around and then end up losing all three.

Thanks

Eric

State your source. Because for all we know Ray or his agent is the one who informed the Clippers he was no longer interested. So why automatically take the side of a free agent over your team's front office?

Thanks for the good read EP, great perspective on what the Clippers FO was probably thinking and their decision-making process.

You're the one making the assumption so that's on you. All I'm saying is we have no clue what happened so no reason to assign blame to one side of it.

Can you find me a single source in all of the internet that would lead me to believe that Ray Allen cancelled his meeting with the Clippers, or indicated that he had no interest in the Clippers? Because I can find you a few sources that have indicated that he did have interest in the Clippers. Many of which have been posted in this forum.

Not saying the Clippers didn't cancel. Just saying YOU nor I know the reason WHY they canceled so why criticize them like they are the ones who blew it? Allen or his agent very well could of told Clippers they are going to sign with Heat etc so they pulled out.

Boston = more money.

Miami = reigning champions.

Clippers = starting gig.

We probably had the least chance of all 3 teams to get Allen. The only thing we had to offer was a starter's job, and we all know he'll be playing crunch-time minutes for ANY team he's on anyway.

EP has it perfect... Crawford was our "bird in the hand". Don't go to sleep now, F.O. still a little more work to do.

For those wondering why Allen wasn't THAT heavily pursued....

CP3 wanted Billups back.

Billups wants to start (or at least get a lot of minutes). So does Ray Ray....

Crawford is okay with coming off the bench...

Basically, Billups cant coexist with Allen.

Although why the F did we give Crawford that much money? Are they serious? I was one of the people being optimistic about J-Craw but you cant tell me that Lee was demanding more than that.

And I dont think bringing Young back is a good fit either. Him and Jamal on the same team isnt a good idea. Hopefully a s/t is in the works to bring in a solid backup SF and C.

Looking on the bright side, our bench should be solid.

You're right. Neither of us know what reaaaally happened. But based off the reports I've read, the Clippers cancelled the meeting with Ray Allen because they signed Jamal Crawford and Chauncey Billups instead, which makes sense. They wouldn't be able to sign Allen because they no longer have the Mid Level Exception that would allow them to do so. That's a good reason to cancel the meeting. But you're right, It's totally possible after getting word of the signing, Ray Allen and his agent decided to Cancel on the Clippers, which I couldn't blame them for doing seeing how the Clippers wouldn't be able to offer him anything more than the BAE.

That's all I'm saying man. You nor I have any idea so I feel it's unfair to assign the blame to one side. It could be the Clippers stupidity but it can just as easily be Allen or his agent pulling out.

We got Jamal! Either you accept that or go root for someone else if it's really getting to you that much. The team's FO is the team so take it or leave it!

I don't know if I agree with "Billups wants to start" argument people have. Maybe Billups plays out the 4th qtr, but start? I don't think he necessarly wants too. 36 and coming off achilles and expects to start? I dont know about that.

What I do think though is that CP3, Jamal, Butler/Young/Odom, BG, and DJ as our starting unit is looking very potent. With the Bench being EBled, Butler/Young/Odom, Billups...I am digging this team. We are pretty stacked!

Jamal is signed, the clippers obviously have more insight and know how than any one of us so I am all in for Jamal!

Billups is being nursed back to start because CP3 loves playing with him and Caron gets much better looks with CB on the floor. Expect CP3 and CB to be on the floor together to start and close games. Crawford will probably need to start until Billups gets back in the swing of things but make no mistake, we plan on using Jamal off the bench as the season progresses. Can you imagine JC and Lamar on the floor at the same time on opposite wings?!? I'm getting goosebumps.

Yeah I know CB is undersized at the 2, but the formula worked wonders early last season and the coaching staff remembers that.

If the same formula doesn't re-produce the same results, hey, we've got one heck of a deep backcourt, we can make adjustments throughout the season.

The most baffling to me was the Ryan Hollins signing, what has that guy done? Couldn't the Clips looked at other options with potential like Henry Sims out of Georgetown is he still an undrafted ufa?

The Clippers were proactive in signing Crawford. Many have said that the Clippers always wait and lose out on FA players. Finally they make a move and people are still unhappy because they don't like the player they signed. Some people will always find something to cry about no matter what.

this reminded me of when we passed up on paul george (who grew up a clipper fan and wanted to play for us) and selected aminu.

sorta sad that we missed out on Courtney Lee's D, and hearing that one of the reason's we like Jamal, is that he wants to be here.... where was that sentiment when passing on Paul George....

do like the sentiment that this deal lets Chauncey start w/Jamal coming off the bench.... don't know if that's the best move, and.... makes sense....

it's also now clear who our GM is.... wonder who he wants for GM.... ?? makes me nervous in that, at least in my opinion, one of the best coaches we've ever had, Larry Brown, was one of the worst personnel guys I've ever seen, bringing in Stanley "hot plate" Roberts and Mark Jackson, while losing Charles Smith & Co.... still would like to hire a GM, and even though Sacks is purported to be the defacto GM by default at this point, still would like the proverbial rabbit out of the hat....

again personally, would rather have kept the sg status quo w/Foye and NY, and overpaid for either Jordan Hill or Ian Mahinmi, w/the MLE if needed be....

also not a feelgood for me to hear that NY is being offered in a sign & trade.... have a good feeling about our prospects w/Swaggy P in the lineup for us, and.... if we did trade for a sf, likin' Dorrell Wright some....

and the Clippers are not necessarily known for always having had "obviously more insight and knowing more than any of us," albeit that is a nice gesture on your part....

^ The difference between the Aminu/George decision and the "Crawford wants to be here" argument is who is making the call... Olshey drafted Aminu over George.

Not saying Sims is the next great thing, he was undrafted probably for a variety of reason but just because you are on a championship team doesn't by default make him quality. I only looked at his stats nothing to say wow Clips used their mini on that awesome dude.

Exactly ppl are in panic mode... And it's only been a few days into free agentcy... We might pull a rabbit out the hat with someone we acquire

from our Summer League team.... We have many options but I do like

Ryan Hollins do to the fact that he's 7 foot.. We need a guy like that but

like someone said earlier you can never have enough bigs..!

While he's not young (32 years old), Crawford doesn't look like a player starting to break down physically. He's a positive presence in the locker room and, always important to the Clippers, he badly wants to be with the organization.
