really wish we'd stop treating our draft picks like they're nothin'.... good teams build thru the draft.... good GMs know how to draft.... know when to hold 'em....

^would this trade make sense? yeah we get a good 3 point shooter for gomes, but we add another guard. i guess it can make a lil bit of sense because bills is out for 2 to 3 months.

I was ready to trade Gomes for a case of beer and a big bag of chips. Now that Marco is on the table I guess it's outta the question.

The Lakers do it w/o valuing draft picks, why can't we? Only good draft pick they've had recently was Bynum...

This would be OK, because we do lack shooters. But we're turning into last years' team: too many limited, undersized guards who aren't good defenders and will be playing small forward too often. If possible, we should move Gomes for a true small forward with some size who can back up Butler. I'm tired of these 3 guard lineups all the time.

Huh?

Gomes is an expiring contract that's an asset guys as bad as Gomes is

This is a bad deal and I'm not saying that as a negative nancy but we just signed Crawford to 5 million

There's gonna be 12.5 million dollars tied up in 3 wings who don't play a lick of defense

We need to look to move Gomes and a pick for Ronnie Brewer

and for the record

I would have loved this before the Crawford signing because Marco for the mini mid level would have been a great move.

We should try and get someone else if we can because the last thing we need is another freaking guard. If not then we should amnesty him, collect our losses and sign a backup 3

OH HELL YES.

i wanted Bellinelli since the 07 draft (instead of thornton). id be in favor of picking this guy up even if it wasnt "gomes-involved".

No need for amnesty

We got Nick Young for Brian Cook because Cook was expiring

The Cavs will get something nice for Luke Walton because he's expiring

Expiring contracts are a valuable commodity in the league there's no need to worry about finding a team that will take Gomes on that last year of his deal especially at the deadline

Last year we had point guards pretending to be shooting guards and this year we'll have shooting guards pretending to be small forwards. Less Defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah!!!

If this was pre-Crawford Im down with this move but apparently defense doesnt matter. Just hope this isnt a future 1st.

Hey, this looks like this is our for the taking:

ramonashelburne ‏@ramonashelburne

Clips could use their bi-annual exception to sign him, or do sign &trade

Eh, I'm on the fence. This is better than amnestying Gomes, and Belinelli can fill it up no doubt, but I'd much rather have a strong perimeter defender to solidify the second unit. Or someone in between, like Dorell Wright before the 76ers got him.

This is what I don't get about this

Like does anyone realize you have to get stops to win in the NBA?

Pre Crawford I love this move it's probably the best thing they can do

Post Crawford it's like what the hell? Who's going to play defense?

how about we do this trade with the hornets: gomes+and a 2nd rd pick for bellineli and jason smith(yes, that jason smith). we would get a good shooter and a solid backup center.

Repped High Quality Post

The point is that expiring contracts have value in this league. Brian Cook got us Nick Young. Kaman's value in the Chris Paul trade was his expiring contract(notice they never intended on keeping him, even pre-Anthony Davis).

Teams that are trying to clear cap space for the summer(summer of CP3 and possibly Dwight) would love to have an expiring contract. That's Gomes' value. So while Belinelli is a nice player, he doesn't fit our team, as we're loaded with undersized guards who don't play defense. They can do better.

Gomes was just one of many scenarios in the article. I purposely put that in cause I know people hate Gomes. We can do a sign & trade ( TPE), or bi-annual to get him.

ok i agrren with u seanrooks but ur only thinking short term.

after next season when billups is gone and i have serious doubts that

hell even play well this year for us. wouldnt it be nice that we have marco

as our back up SG. (i think hes even good enough to have him as a starter and Jamal as a backup)

If they use their bi-annual fine

but it doesn't change the fact that you have 12 million dollars tied up in 3 guards who don't play defense

With a team that has two max contracts you just can't spend your money stupidly like that

You're getting into GSW territory there

Neither of them play defense.

They're redundant it should be one or the other not both

That's like having Mo and Jamal Crawford on your team

Gomes' $4million might not count against the cap if he's amnestied, but it sure does count against the Clips' bottom line... let's face it, he's gonna clear waivers and we'd be on the hook for the whole lot.

This is a trade where we get a much better piece back for probably half the price of our $4,000,000 cheerleader. It might also be a little easier to nudge Donald into paying a little luxury tax if he's not shelling out four million bucks for Gomes to stink up the Bosnian D-league.

It's a flat-out good deal. Nobody else involved? Done within 24 hours.

Gomes has too much value as an expiring contract to trade him for a redundant shooter

If the Clippers want to use their bi annual on Marco without any trades fine that works if you'll take the cap hit but don't give away one of your assets

a guard whose 6ft 5 can handle the ball and shoots 3s at a high percenatge is useless...some of u guys need ur head checked who else on this eam has a better percentage in 3s than marco????

if this is the case and we apparently want a logjam at the 2, why didnt we just get marshon? (young, length, can play the 3, cheap, keeps DH east)

The only time his contract might be worth something is very close to the deadline. Teams like expiring contracts, but if they're going to take on the whole last year, then they at least want some production... something a little more than simply being able to stand and breathe unassisted.

Gomes is worthless right now... he has been worthless in a Clipper jersey for 2 years... and we're about to start paying him another $4,000,000.

The thing is we can't make any big trades without the Gomes salary for a defender

So we shouldn't give up trade flexibility to bring in a shooter

He's someone who you sign for the bi annual independent of a S&T

I like the dude as a player and we need a shooter but we need defense more

In fact we need defense desperately and the Gomes expiring contract should be used as a means to get that wing defender

We don't need someone great

We need someone good

Brewer, Deshawn Stevenson, CJ Miles, etc

Two of those guys are still options

You go after those guys with what you have then you worry about shooters

Well, yes, the long term matters somewhat. But how about this: in the short term, we have 2 shooting guards in the rotation, and one small forward. In the long term, we have one shooting guard and one small forward. I think the edge here goes to needing a small forward. Would you rather have 3 shooting guards and 1 small forward next year? Did you love the Vinny undersized, defensively week 3 guard lineups? This team needs a wing who has size and knows how to use it. Crawford may be 6-5 but he is one of the worst rebounders/defenders at his size in the league. We need a small forward, both short term and long term.

Gomes is not worthless.... he can play the four, he's a tweener, and is anything but a total loss.... will be surprised if Donald is willing to amnesty him, 'specially when he is so tradeable come the trading deadline.... and Bellinelli is not much of a baller.... basketball is played at both ends of the court, and.... he shoots less than 40 percent from threes....

What if the deal for brooks gos through and so does the deal for Marco. Since the Clippers are pretty desperate to get rid of gomes.

We would be filled with guards.

Do you think its possible we end up with both?

yeah i just thinking it through.

i like the idea of having belinelli, but it makes more sense to go after a guy like brooks.

but whatever, either way its a logjam at the 2. im confused.

We need a 2 that can play the 3

Someone who can be to Butler what Taj Gibson is to Carlos Boozer in the 4th at Chicago

Thibs uses Taj to close games because Boozer can't defend to save his life

I like Belinelli for the bi annual because we keep our expiring contract and get a shooter we need but for a pick? that's just a heavy price

i think its very possible we end up trading one of the 2's for a 3 or 4/5. we're not done.
