if this is the case and we apparently want a logjam at the 2, why didnt we just get marshon? (young, length, can play the 3, cheap, keeps DH east)

What if the deal for brooks gos through and so does the deal for Marco. Since the Clippers are pretty desperate to get rid of gomes.

We would be filled with guards.

Do you think its possible we end up with both?

i think its very possible we end up trading one of the 2's for a 3 or 4/5. we're not done.

Exactly.

Good players > bad players. Right now, and for the last 2 years, Gomes has been a bad player.

guessing that Ramon Sessions would be out of our price range, and.... would prefer Delonte West over Bellinelli.... doesn't shoot the three as well as Marco, but his overall percentage is higher, and his assits and defense is much better, plus he's a combo guard, which makes me feel better if and when CP3 is unavailable....

This is a trade where we get a much better piece back for probably half the price of our $4,000,000 cheerleader. It might also be a little easier to nudge Donald into paying a little luxury tax if he's not shelling out four million bucks for Gomes to stink up the Bosnian D-league.

It's a flat-out good deal. Nobody else involved? Done within 24 hours.

We had some people posting stats last week saying just how badly our 3-pt% was going to drop without Mo, Randy and Nick.

I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I haven't thought about that. I forgot we do lack some three pointers, but does Crawford count as a shooter? Also, I prefer a guy that can do both shoot 3 and play D. Ronnie Brewer!!

Ronnie Brewer's not a shooter, G.

Not that I wouldn't welcome him, but I think, like ekker kinda said... we're just assembling good players to make other deals. We have Crawford & Billups at SG already... we need a 2/3 and a 5.

Making trades for better players, while not screwing ourselves financially will help us achieve that.

Gome is Bad

Bad he is worse than bad.

I would rather have a defensiv stopper or a BIG man.

But, I will take marco in a heart beat if it means getting rid of Gomes and adding a player that can actually shoot.

Hopefully there are a few more options.

But if not I wouldn't mind Marco vs a 4 mill nobody named Gomes....

Unless we have a defensive mastermind coming in as the defensive coordinator, this isn't worth it. We're going after too many offensive-minded players which makes me think Vinny is behind these talks. Gomes' contract is not unmovable, we don't have to jump at the opportunity to trade him.

Carlos Francisco Delfino (born August 29, 1982, in Santa Fe, Argentina) is an Argentine professional basketball player. He also has Italian citizenship.[2] Delfino plays at the small forward and shooting guard positions. He stands 1.98 m (6 ft 6 in) tall and weighs 104 kg (230 lb). He is also noted for his defense and three point shooting skills.

Marco Stefano Belinelli (born March 25, 1986, in San Giovanni in Persiceto) is an Italian professional basketball player. He is 1.96 m (6 ft 5 in) tall and plays as a shooting guard. He was selected 18th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors.

Come on guys Vinny wants shooters.

Viiny cant waste his time with Defense.

Just ass Greg Popivic

He named a play after him....

Isnt is sad that a Coach calls a play that refers to someone unable or unwilling to play defense.

Good point

Pay Marco!

Honestly I wouldn't be terribly upset if we gave Leslie some minutes at the 3

See if he can guard Kevin Durant for 3 minutes

Wouldn't hurt to try would it? If the kid thinks he can be a better defender than Tony Allen let him try and prove it

If I were Vinny I would surround my self with a bunch of Offensive players 2. Than after a loss he could always blame the players for not givng the defense effort and he basically can't teach them Defense.

So why blame Vinny....

Man I really wanted Wright on the Clippers.Hope he does well with the 76ers.First they take Nick and now Dorell.

But I don't really like the idea of bringing in Bellinelli.I'd much rather have Delfino who can play defense and can knock down open threes. He is a very good fit for us.But how would we get him?I thought we were broke.

Im for it. U guys really want Travis Leslie as our backup SG until Chauncey is 100%? And none of these guards are playing SF. Odom is going to be our back up SF and PF. That's what he was on the Lakers and he got championships at that role. I'd say do this and add some bigs to round out the roster. When Billups is back and healthy, we will always have trade bait with all of our guards.

I would prefer someone with more size and better D, Delfino for instance.

Remember, Lamar can log in minutes at the 3. How much playing time will he get if only backs up Griffin? Griffin will have about 35 mins per game which leaves Odom with about 13-15 mins at PF. I expect Odom to have a minimum of 25 mins per game, so he good for another ten at the SF position.

IF we add another Guard like Belli we won't be too highly dependent on him manning the backup 3 by himself. He will share duties with Lamar. Depending on match-ups, I think things could work out. I think the FO and Vinny were thinking the same thing when they were trying to get Marshon Brooks.

Our perimeter defense is still below average.Atleast, Bellinili fills a need as he gives us range and spacing.

Good deal. He'll be the starting 2. He's played with CP3 before so he'll fit in right away. Bled, Craw,L.O of the bench is solid.

Or

They'll trade Bledshow and Butler for an upgrade at the 3. If they lose Bledshow, Crawford can handle the ball in the second unit.

They can use their BAE for a solid back up C.

I like this of course. If we can move Gomes for a good player at ANY position it's extremely positive for the team. Even if we also get Brooks, still do the deal for a 2nd round pick. Assets can be moved around at a later time. We end up with a logjam at the guard spots, a trade can be made down the road.

IMO if we luck into getting MarShon for a pick today, that guy will be as valuable or more valuable than Bledsoe in a year's time. Take him regardless if we get the opportunity.

I don't see why the Hornets would do this Gomes trade for a 2nd round pick though. Unless they think Gomes can actually contribute to an NBA team (and they'd have to be insane if so), essentially they'd be paying 4mil for a 2nd round pick. Way over market value of course.

So that means we're probably offering a protected 1st round pick in this proposed deal. If so, it's a lot to give away in order to sign a role player and avoid paying Gomes to leave.

In looking at the team somebody has assembled, it is very apparent that we still lack solid 3 pt shooting. Butler and Odom are marginal and they are the two best we have. Not a good situation...

It is not like we were a 3 pt. shooting team last year. After CB went out we couldn't make peanuts! In the pos NY made some meaningful ones though!

If we don't find a way to spread opposing defenses, it won't matter how much defense we play. Our three best 3 point shooters from last year are gone and so far we have only acquired players who do not shoot well from the outside.

SO I HAVE BEEN SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS ON CTB ABOUT THE NEED TO GET A PERIMETER SHOOTER.

If we don't, teams will zone and sag on us and then we are toast.

I bet that this deal has CP3's handprints all over it. Until the deal is done, don't assume we get him via trade. It could be a sign with the Bi-Annual.

JamFan

BTW, don't fret over some perceived logjam at the 2. When Caron left the floor lasts season, we went to 3 guard offenses frequently. This season we will have taller SG's than last year. But a 3 guard offense won't work as well unless somebody can drain a 3.

Yeah, I'm not that concerned about having a guard heavy roster. The NBA isn't a league where bigs dominate any more. Its good to have a lot of versitle guys who can handle the ball and create their own shot. I think we could do next season with various combinations of 3 guard line-ups. But you're right though - somebody is going to have to hit some outside shots for it to really work.

It depends on the pick we are giving up. If it's a second round pick or a late first rounder we're giving up and we're getting him for 2 years, then yeah this is a solid move.
