I have heard while looking in the site's threads, a lot of people don't like Dunleavy as the head coach. I still don't know enough about Dunleavy to have an opinion myself, but Don Nelson of the Warriors isn't sure of his future with the Warriors, and is heavily considering moving out to elsewhere. Whether you consider Don Nelson as more of a "small ball" type of coach, I still think he is a good coach and may help the Clipps more than Dunleavy. I understand that injuries were sadly, a big reason for the outcome of the season and what could have looked like a good season for the Clippers without Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston gone. Just my opinion... It is my first thread myself and if someone else has already targeted this idea, I apologize. Just something to ponder about.

first of all, we have the Angels Topbuzz site up and running and we need your help to get it going. Sign in, make comments and email all your friends to join the site. Dumbleavy, has taken a lot of shots on this site. He is considered a nice guy and a great practice coach. But he has made some bonehead coaching moves during games that have been recognized by everybody. He seems to go a little nuts when under pressure. Also, while the NBA scoring is reaching new modern day highs because all the other teams are speeding things up, Dumbleavy still prefers the old slow down, walk it up the court, make 10 passes and throw a brick style of offense. It seems that time has passed him by. The up tempo offense are more fun to watch and there is more scoring. The slow tempo offense is a little boring. Sterling probably won't fire him cause they just gave him a long extension of his contract and we are stuck with him for 2 or 3 more years. Also, Dumbleavy has made some questionable player moves. Korolev was all his idea, and we passed on some really great players like Danny Granger to draft him.

I for one like Dunleavy and his style of play. This is a game of "bigs" and defense and Mike has the right idea.
Sure, small ball looks exciting and looks at time like it will become the new trend but just when you think it will become the norm, it doesn't. Why? Because those same teams that have adopted that mentality always find themselves short of making the "big dance". Look at the Suns / Warriors/ Denver, how far have they gotten in the play-offs?
Denver hasn't made it past the first round and who has been the ones that have owned them the last 2 years prior to this season? I think we have under the direction of Dunleavy. How? Playing a defensive minded game (boring) and playing big.
Warriors? Looks like they are out this year and got hot in the first round last year. What took them out? Lack of defense and bigs.
Suns? They are a little different in the sense that they have manged to stay consistent up until the very last moment to break through. What have they done this year? They got a big that can clog up the middle and help on the defensive end. They realized that a team running on that philosophy isn't going to match well with the likes of the Spurs ( epitome of boring) and go to the next level.
Mike Dunleavy may not be the best coach in the NBA but his philosophy win titles. He is a defensive minded coach first and that is what you need to go into the second half of the season.

Most coaches say that the offense starts at the defensive end of the court and I just happen to agree.

Don't get the idea that I like the small-ball style of play, I actually am more against it than for it...as for his defensive mindset, I don't know myself. Next year I will get a better look on his judgments. I want to see the Clippers healthy with at least most of their key guys up and running the entire season. If the team still struggles and Dunleavy still appears to be lagging, I don't see why the FO should keep him.

Well put CJ- and you might be right about next season Miquel- assuming there wouldn't be any more key injuries.

If we actually make a couple of moves this off season and get back to form and dunleavy cant contend for a title then he needs to go. Cant settle for the playoffs every year. When i go to staples to see my favorite team play i would like to see one clipper banner in the rafters.Kinda sad that the kings and avengers have more banners than the clippers.

Unfortunately, I think Dunleavy will be here for his entire tenure. But for us dreamers, I'd like to have any coach besides him. Seriously, a guy like Rick Carlisle would NOT allow us to only have 23 wins this year.

WRONG. Clippers woke up two years ago because the organization woke up 2 years ago, Dunleavy got a chance to coach a team with a energized organization (one that had been asleep for a while) and now he gets all this praise. I WANT A GOD DAMN COACH TO PUT A BANNER ON STAPLES CENTER, all those ****** ass laker fans are right, WE WILL ALWAYS BE SECOND RATE and the VISITORS IN THE LAKER-CLIPPER GAMES IF WE DO NOT PUT UP A BANNER. I mean people come one with the group of guys we have I could coach and get us to the playoffs, the postseason is not a big deal, it shouldnt be when we have a good team. I WANT TO BE A SERIOUS CONTEDER TEAM, A TEAM PEOPLE FEAR, A TEAM THAT BELONGS IN LA - Dunleavy is incapable of coaching such a team.

From what I could tell, it looks like the Clippers will keep Dunleavy for at least one more season. If the team is healthy and still it doesn't work out, the front office should drop him.

I agree with the banner statement considering when i go to games with my friends they all make fun of me but, for two seasons this coach had injuries that hurt our chances greatly. He was the one that put out the deal that would have gotten us miller for beans.(Players we were going to let go anyway)And that said owner did not sign beno nor did he do the trade for terry like dunleavy wanted.I will give him one more season but im giving the owner until the beginning of summer league to give the players he needs to have somewhat of a chance.

And that's what Dunleavy should be the GM. He'd be a decent one actually, a lot better than Elgin. He needs to quit coaching and enter a position where he actually KNOWS what he's doing.

Amen, LAC_12, Amen! It's not good enough anymore to just be a competitive team; we need to build a title contender! We can't feel sorry for ourselves that we missed out on Kobe, Ray Allen, Arenas, B-Diddy, etc. We have to look ahead and get the best possible players to take us to the next level!!! NOW!!!!

Do you think with all of our injuries and your dream coach we would've made the playoffs this season? The fact is Dunleavy has coached the Lakers and the Blazers deep into the playoffs. Which coach do you want the Clippers to sign to make the Clippers "A TEAM PEOPLE FEAR"? I don't see any coach available out there who could make a dramatic difference. With the Clippers it's more about health and talent. With health and talent we could be that contending team next season.

Beg to differ. Dunleavy made the key move by going after Cassell. If not for Cassell's leadership and experience, we would not have made the play-offs. We had the pieces but we needed a veteran to make it work. A team just doesn't wake up.

I feel your pain and I understand your frustration but it is not Dunleavy's fault. He and Elgin have made moves that have given us a core of competitive players that can complete day in and day out. We are back at the same spot we were in 2005-2006 season. With the addition of Thornton, we have become more versatile and all we need now is another younger Cassell to run the team. We are 2 pieces away (great shooter & PG) from another great season. Lets give Dunleavy this upcoming year before we start shoveling dirt on his grave. He deserves better.

I agree that if we can get those two pieces, we'll be on our way. But as for Dunleavy, can anyone explain to me why he has the worst offensive sets in the league? It seemed like this past season, all the players did was isolation plays and dribble out the clock only to take an ill advised fadeaway. There were hardly any easy baskets. I truly wanted to think that it's the makeup of the current roster as the reason why we played that way, but in the end, the coach is the one who designs the plays and sets.

Yeah Illastrate, that was my observation as well ... all season long.

Could be that they worked on plays with Brand and others but those guys weren't in the line-up and the guys who had to execute them weren't prepared. Or maybe the execution of the guys who were left is just lame. It seemed the PGs were often holding it until there were only 10 seconds left which might mean guys weren't getting open as they should.

The exception: Kaman succeeded in the half-court set.

But I agree ... stagnant. No movement, not good perimeter passing. When they did find the open man ... oops, clang (Thomas and Mobley) which gives the defense a better ability to take chances. NEED A CONSISTENT SHOOTER to help this! It's one big domino effect.
