I caught a story on CNN today that was truly tragic, but in some ways, uplifting.

A boy named Lee Eddins from California suffering from Leukemia idolized Roy Hibbert since his college days. The kid wasn't doing so well, so his family contacted Hibbert's people and asked if he'd pay him a visit.

Though he usually feels uncomfortable in such situations, he agreed to surprise the boy with a visit to his hospital. Unfortunately, young Lee took his last breath as Roy was waiting at Indianapolis airport for his flight.

He was notified by phone, and decided to take the trip anyway to comfort the lad's family. He has dedicated next season to Lee and taken on the mission of encouraging people to become bone marrow donors.

In this time of unprecedented celebrity hype, this stood out to me as a glowing example of humanity that the privileged amongst us would do well to emulate.

My condolences to Lee's family, and utmost respect to Roy Hibbert.

The story hit me particularly hard because I have a sister who is a leukemia survivor. At the time she contracted it, there was less than a 5% chance of survival. She underwent treatment for 17 years... from 3 years old until she was 20, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She spent almost her entire childhood in Great Ormond Street Hospital for children (the one honored in the Olympic opening ceremony) and her best friend was a fellow patient who ended up not being as lucky as my sis.

This disease takes an unimaginably brutal toll on a body, but a bone marrow transplant helped my sister to become the proud, healthy mother of 4 she is today.

One of the things Hibbert mentioned in his interview was that a white child has a 70% chance of finding a donor match, while a black kid has only a 17% chance, so I urge ALL CTB members to consider getting swabbed (just a cotton swab in your mouth) and added to the database. If you're matched, it can be a painful experience to donate... but not nearly as much as it used to be... and there's no better way to earn your stripes as a 'Most Valuable Person' than to literally save the life of a child.

Please look into it.

I'll rep anyone that gets swabbed... and guys, please keep bumping this thread. Any kid you know could be hit by this fucker at any time.

Repped High Quality Post

^ I'm glad to hear that your sister is a survivor and has a great family right in front of her. G-d sometimes works in mysterious ways but in the end, G-d is good. As cleepers said, ''there's no better way to earn your stripes as an MVP than to literally save the life of a child'' I couldn't agree more and I will look into getting swabbed as well. I wish all CTB members a long happy healthy life!

Contrast this beautiful story to the antics of Bynum. I think the Lakers were destined to part ways with him, with or without D12.
