The CBA has really created some strange results. You could build a (very mediocre) team from some of the best remainng free agents:

Barbossa

KMart

Josh Howard

Barnes

Amundson

McGrady

Pietrus

Ivan Johnson

There are some real servicable parts there. Why has no one picked up KMart? Bad locker room guy maybe?

Cause they're like us full, or don't have the necessary cash the respective players want!

Get Josh Howard and we'd have 3 of the very best SF's in the NBA (if we got a time machine and landed in 2005)

Seriously though, for the vet's minimum there's no reason not to take any number of those guys. JHoward, TMac, Barbosa. How can you go wrong if you're paying them peanuts?

I'm worried about what the CBA is going to do to the league. Guys like that would already be signed and for legit money by this time in the summer. This new policy is really hurting the role players....I think it's just a matter of time before a lot of household names in the NBA start to leave the states because the only way they can pay their bills is to play for Olympiacos. It's going to weaken the overall talent in the league.

Cause we'll go over the tax threshold, and DTS doesn't want that!

I don't think we'll go into the tax by taking a minimum contract. Anyway, cut Leslie if need be. He'll be in China or Turkey within a year regardless.

I dont think any of these guys can command more than the league minimum at this point. Other option is overseas, as TheDude notes. I think we will see a migration of the C-level talent go overseas.

As far as the Clips go, I think a couple of these guys might be better options than the summer sensation, Ammo.

the minimum is 1.3 right?

^ I think you are right. Barbosa for 1.3 anyone? If Reggie Evans can get 1.7 annually from the Nets, all these guys are worth 1.3.

I don't think he'll accept though! These players know that teams will make trades and get cap space and there are other teams out there that can offer money, and minutes, we can't offer even one of those 2!

You may be right, then he has to go overseas. Or sign with the Bobcats.

Kirilenko played overseas, doesn't seem like such a bad thing!

Kirilenko is a lot better than the scrubs listed above.

The euro economy is now struggling worse than ours. I don't think there is a big pay day over there for these guys.

Ultimately, the CBA appears to be helping big market teams, at least for now. First, acquire to legit superstars, which soaks up most of the salary cap. Second, sign decent B grade role players to mid level exception deals, or lsightly above that. Third, fill the remaining roster spots with serviceable B and C- grade vets and a few newbies, all who have to play for peanuts.

Of course, the more desireable B&C grade vets are attracted to the places where they can win, which benefits the big market teams (except the Knicks, who can screw up a free lunch it seems).

The Clippers used the formula in the offseason, and did it pretty well. Quality players, good character guys, peices that appear to fit together without too many obvious holes.

I think Adam Morrison might be the final guy to fill out the roster. In order for any of these players to make the cut, they'll have to beat out AmMo in training camp. But let's see what the provided list gives us...

  • Kenyon's out. He made a statement saying he won't resign with the Clippers on his Twitter account. Any one who thought he might get more through a S&T, it's out of the question. UNLESS, it brings back a draft pick or swapping rights.

  • Barnes, forget it. He's a bad character guy. He does play defense, but he doesn't fit with the crew chemistry wise.

  • Josh Howard. Small forward/shooting guard combo. Too many shooters. Pass.

  • Leandro Barbosa. Dual guard. I think Vinny wants to keep the PG position for Paul, Billups, Bledsoe and Crawford. He might not make it.

  • Louis Amundson. Forward-center. Won't make it - 1) positions filled with Turiaf and Odom, plus Hollins and Jordan for center, 2) log-jam, 3) 40-50% free throw shooter.

  • Tracy McGrady. Dual guard/small forward combo. Last season, he averaged a career low 5.3 points. He'll join the ranks of Odom and Crawford as redeemers. Vinny is into redemption players, a common theme with this Clippers team. Can be best Morrison?

  • Mickael Pietrus. Another shooting guard/small forward combo. He's also more of a shooter. Will have to pass.

  • Ivan Johnson. Power forward. Clips already have Griffin, Odom and Turiaf who can all play the 4 position. He's also an undrafted prospect that had him seeing D-League after D-League plus three world teams. I don't think he'll make it.

Ammo is mostly a shooter too you know, but I guess he's the only one that'll come cheap.

Bobcats should sign every single one of those players and I guarantee they make the playoffs in the very WEAK Eastern Conference.

I think it would be bad for our locker room to add another player because egos will get in the way and someone will demand more minutes

Wow that is the first time I read that and its what i have been thinking all season. No other season have I seen so many guys sign minimum contracts. And the thing with that is guys like the ones from this list are left out to dry especially in the case of Kenyon cause he had a huge impact on our playoff success last year yet he is not being rewarded. He wanted started money and because of everyone signing these 1 year deals (I mean have we ever seen so many 1 year deals before? ) he has to settle...

Don't think any of these guys would want to join.Don't really have a need for them either.I would like to pick up K-Mart again since Ronny and Hollins aren't as good of back ups in my opinion. But I don't think K-Mart wants to rejoin the Clippers or would take that money. The same with the rest of the players listed.I think the roster is pretty much done besides some camp invites.

ROnny and Hollins shoot twice better than KMart at the ft line! He's 37 they're both in the 60%. DOn't know why KMart shot so bad in the season cause he can make the mid range shot!

No, I say bring the CBA on. I am getting tired of the same big market teams winning and the same teams losing. I forgot the statistic, but in the NBA only (I think) 7 or 8 different teams have won it all. That is nuts! I say bring on parity. I want to stop these big money teams to stop buying their championships and build a team. Look at the NFL, some NFL all-stars get paid less than NBA role players. Something has to change in the NBA.

But to be on topic, I don't see anyone we really need. Barbosa would be a good guy to pick up if we needed to fill a spot. But right now, I think we are pretty much set.

Agreed. The point is that there is some really decent talent left that will be forced to take the vets minimum, play overseas, or wait for a roster spot to open via injury. And there is another level of talent below this list that is also without work-

Blatche, Fisher, Arenas, Chris Anderson, Magloire, Yi, Farmar, Shelden Williams, Rasual Butler, Childress, Marquis Daniels, etc

There is alot of talent left, given we are talking about the 12th to 15th roster spots are pretty much all that are possibly open for consideration on most teams.

I would take him as a 12th+ guy any day. Fast as lightening, streaky shooter, decent defender, combo guard. At the very least, a good insurance policy against injury.

I think the Clippers should take a chance on Greg Oden. The guy just got that Kobe surgery in Germany and who knows. I'd also love to see T-Mac on the team to add to the many ex-all stars in the Lakers/Clippers games this season.

I dont think Oden needs the Kobe procedure because thats for missing cartiladge i think he has bone chips in his knee's. but i'd still take him as a backup

Did Darko Milicic end up signing somewhere? I don't see any official signing news for him. Clippers should still go after him as DeAndre's backup. Not sure I'm sold on Hollins.

The problem is that to many teams that are now subject to the new CBA is still paying their old stars way to much money.....over 20Mil....like Kobe etc. They are grandfathered in. Nobody is going to adjust their contracts down just because of the new CBA. Because they make so much...to much....other good players can't make squat, or get signed at all.

Wouldn't mind seeing Clippers pick up Oden or Darko but the problem is will either of them sign for the money we can offer?Oden is not only injury prone but has been dealing with depression and struggles with being an alcoholic. But at this point I would take a chance on him because if he does continue to struggle with everything we have guys to take his minutes. And if he has a good year he could hopefully get his career is back on track and we can have a good back up or even starting center. But that is reaching, also there are other teams who could take a chance on him and offer more money.I think the best thing for him to do is go to China,Europe,or one of those leagues so he gets a way from everything and can focus on basketball.

slestack11

There's plenty of drugs and alcohol in China and Europe for Oden to get into...and probably more accessible. I'm not sure any team is going to offer him anything at this point so he may just take the minimum contract we offer. As far as Darko, I hear the Bulls were interested, but then there's been no news about him for almost a month now. I think Darko has talent and just has not been in the right situation where he's getting the right opportunity. Backing up DeAndre can be just that opportunity if DJ fails to live up to his salary.
