It's not the position, it's the commentary.

After 28 years in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Clippers have officially crawled out from under the expansive shadow of the Lakers. In fact, despite Clip fans' understandable frustration at always being mentioned in the same breath as the Lakers, the crosstown rivals provide a critical case study in franchise efficacy. Take the product on the court: They play in the same arena, had nearly identical records last season and averaged almost the same number of points per game, and both made it to the second round of the playoffs and sent two starters to the All-Star Game. For all intents and purposes, they're identical teams. But the Clippers' average ticket price was nearly 50 bucks cheaper per game than the Lakers. (Despite the expensive acquisition of Chris Paul, the Clippers raised their tickets only 1.7 percent, compared with the Lakers' 4.7 percent.) That helps explain why the Clippers were the most improved franchise in the NBA for the second year in a row (up 69 spots overall), while the Lakers dropped 38 spots over the same span. Sure, the Lakers have history and mystique, but those are expensive words for NBA fans. After creating their own exciting brand of Lob City basketball and signing Blake Griffin to a five-year extension, the Clippers may be closer than ever to casting a shadow of their own in LA.

We now ARE actually better than the Lakers in something. In all major sports rankings, Clippers 53 Lakers 89 and in just the NBA, Clippers 15 Lakers 22.

Very interesting... and hard to argue with. The "wins in the last 3 years" category kills us in comparison to the likes of Dallas and Utah, but it ensures that we will rise even higher next year.

Basically, these numbers indicate a well-run franchise... OKC and SAS deserve their rankings. Clippers are middle-of-the-pack right now, but climbing... most improved 2 years in a row. We are gradually shaking that monkey from our backs, while the lakers are on the slide ever since Jerry Buss gave his son the keys.

Well done, Donald.

I like that Donald didn't up the price of tickets too much, now wonder we played home when we played the Lakers! I think he should finally up the ticket prices so he can stop being cheap in the future and open his pockets to a guy like Monta Ellis!

I think him having cheaper tickets than the lakers will make him more money in the long run, because people can buy more beer if it's cheaper which also means more food, and it can create a bigger fan base because people can afford our tickets and not the lakers. And DTS has money, he's probably one of the richer owners in the league, it's just about him opening up his pockets which he will once we sign CP3 long term. Why would he go over the tax and pay hefty fines if we are not even garunteed our line-up next year.

You know who is overpayed, Ginobli not ellis. Ginobli is a bench sg getting payed 14 mil, Ellis is a prime player who puts up big numbers and has pretty good defense!

How is Ginobili overpaid? 2 years ago he started 79 games, this past year he only played in 44 and started 7. He's actually started more than half of his career games and his getting paid 14 mill a year all the while he's helped them win what, 2 or 3 championships? Won a 6th man of the year award while posting career averages of 15 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, 1.5 steals, 83.5% FT shooting, 37% 3pt shooting in 27.9 MPG!

Ginobili is a fireball off the bench or in any game, and if he actually played 35MPG he'd be a 20+ PPG scorer. The Spurs aren't idiots and aren't known for horrible contracts and making mistakes. They are, the Patriots of the NBA. A classy team, that is fine tuned and even with age they still manage to be a force in the NBA.
