I thought we already have 14 players or 15 players under contract? Perhaps a couple of the contracts are non-guaranteed?

I know people like to hate on the clippers for no reason but it really bothers me how people think the clippers are "the jv squad" or are trying to copy them when they actually drafted Barnes and Odom in the first place. Just shows how out of touch these laker bandwagon fans are.

I'm sure if the front office is signing Barnes that he is mentally and physically ready to contribute to this team.

I personally don't buy the ex-Lakers argument for signing players. Caron Butler had his best years with the Wizards, Odom(the only player this argument holds up for) played his best for the Lakers, Turiaf played his best with the Warriors and I think the same can be said for Barnes.

It would be nice to have a third string SF who can contribute more than simply warming the bench like Gomes.

I'm a believer about giving players second chances and I hope Barnes(if he is in fact signed) and Odom have rebound seasons with the Clips.

I don't really like this but I'm ok with the fact that all of players have played significant minutes and have contributed at some point last season.

We don't need a bench filled with players like Gomes/Cook who can't do anything but be a liability.

We need more athletic wings who can play defense, rebound and slash.

Although I hate Barnes and think hes a Prick, I think this would be a good signing because this team is full of jump shooting wings, and we need guys who can play D and slash. So if he's actually committed and brings that toughness and D, then Im ok with the signing.

Probably one of my top 5 most hated players in the nba but for our 12th or 13th guy, he's a good pickup for minimum money.

He won't even see the court unless for injury.

Why does barnes wants to be LAC? He wont get any playing and he hates BG32. he is gonna mess up the team's chemistry. Sad

Why are you guys hesitant? Sure he was a prick to the clippers and specifically BG32, but that is one of his key features as a player. He gets under the skin of the opposing team and their fans. Let's be meta about this and see that it is a skill that can be useful in the NBA. Him and Lamar and BG32 will be best buds in no time even though they played like vile enemies against each other. That's just the way the NBA is. It is a pro league and these guys are pros and want to get paid like pros. So they have to leave the crap from last season behind. It's harder for us fans to do so.

The 1 thing that I like about Barnes is that he stands up for his teammates and doesn't let anyone get pushed around.

I was suprised last season when both Reggie and K-Mart didn't retaliate once or stand up for our guys once, especially the way Blake was getting hacked night in and night out. Don't be suprised if Barnes gets suspended a few times this season, he could be the enforcer that we've been missing.

Well said my friend...couldn't of put it any way better...come on my fellow clips...the front office is being smart about the moves we are making...Barnes is a great pick up! And ee are covered at every position just incase of injury...we have more security now just incase one of our star players get hurt...every player that we aquired can fill the need and the clippers will still be the deepest and most dominent in the league....i like it!! Great job clips front office!!

.well let me quote a couple of laker fans from lakernation

"Bring him back.. He gives our bench toughness and depth"

"Do not let him go"

"Don't know why the hate on Barnes, Laker fans. He was one of the few lakers with some heart and was the spark off a weak bench last year"

i find it ironic that some of the players the clippers have, laker fans were getting wet over like

"oh CP3s a laker ahhh 2012 champions ahh"

"LO please come back to the Lake Show please we miss you )':"

"Blake griffin should come to the Lake Show ahh"

"yes, steve nash is trying to recruit grant hill! hes gonna be great with us"

and these were the same people that were in love with ramon sessions..even magic johnson sounded foolish when he said that that was the lakers answer to westbrook LOL

they can talk all there crap but they were begging for what the clippers have and dont deny it!.... Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_04 GO CLIPPERS~

NBA Rumors ‏@NBARUMORS

Matt Barnes has agreed upon a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. Barnes spent the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.

We have a ton of wing players but only two PGs. If CP3 gets hurt or even Bledsoe, we don't have another PG like we had last year with Mo.

I know Billups can play PG on the offensive side but defensively, no way he can keep up.

We have 3 point guards, Billups is a point guard, and crawford is a combo guard who can play 1 and the 2 spot, dont worry we are covered.

Jeffries was traded in the Johnson trade I believe, and remind me what player went in Kobe's face every time every year, and now they're good teammates? MTPoS Don't see why that can't be the case here!

He's a pretty good all around player, good defense, .333 3-point shooting, pretty good rebounder, I love this guy, he'll help where needed! And stop with the "I hate him cause he hates us" crap, he'll fit in here just fine! Is it just me or does the FO seem to rack up pieces for a trade? True enemies become truly good friends, and now we really do have a bunch of ex lakers on our squad!

We basically turned Reggie into Matt Barnes, somehow I don't think we'll be chanting MATT - BARNES at the games though. Not as catchy.

Billups is coming off a major injury and cannot run around after quick PGs. Crawford is not a combo guard. He can't and won't pass the rock and set teammates up. He's an iso player and I don't think I've ever seen him run a pick and roll.

We need a serviceable 3rd PG in case we have an injury or even foul trouble.

I like him as 3rd string but where do you find minutes for him if we have everybody healthy. We already have two better players at that position.

Last year he would have been a major contributor, this year with GHill and Caron at SF, Billups, Jamal, Willie, Bledsoe at SG I don't see where you get Barnes in the game....Even one of those guys (Willie) is not in the 10man rotation save for injuries.

I hate Matt Barnes but he does the one thing we were looking for last year: fight dirty.

I'll be happy to have a guy on the team that's ready to hurt somebody with a cheap shot and take a suspension.

Sounds like it's a done deal this morning. I'd say it makes sense at this point to move the two kids for one who can contribute. Probably a big. Trey and Leslie have zero chance to even get a uniform this season.

I agree. They won't get any playing time this year, might as well move them for their own good. They're solid players who could contribute elsewhere. It would be a waste to see them sit on the bench for another season.

I don't like Barnes at all, but if this is what CP3 wants then there has to be a reason behind it. I'll trust in his decision and see what Barnes can do for this team. Just gonna say if we were going to sign another ex laker I would of wanted fisher.

Ah... I have the best luck in The Clippers always signing guys on my hated list. My friend always laughs at that fact " It is funny when The Clippers sign guys you hate because then you have to like them"

Hahahah

Most recently I remember Marcus Camby (he always talked smack against us)

then Kenyon Martin (ever since he choked Corey Maggette)

and now Matt Barnes.

Yikes. I hope he gets no playing time but if he does by some miraculous reason focus on him 100% of the possession. Ignore everything else, and just look at Matt Barnes throughout a possession when he is on offense or defense and it is like it is 4 against 5. For those of you defending him if he gets enough PT you will learn to despise him.

With that said, DAMN We have a SQUAD!!!!

Matt is one of those players that you love to hate until he joins your team. They you love to have him at coaches disposal. Can you spell......ENFORCER! I dare anybody to come after Blake now. Not with Barnes sitting on the bench, waiting for coach to call his number. Matt enters the game, the Clippers get their payback, Matt gets ejected, and everybody contributes to the secret fund to help pay his fines. Oh, and BTW, he can actually play tough D and is a pretty good all around player as well. He just isn't better than the guys who will be in front of him.

"He just isn't better than the guys who will be in front of him"...that might be debatable according to basic stats and advanced metrics. He'll produce at the defensive and rebounding end of the court definitely. Offensively he's a below average at the 3pt and FT line, but above average at the 2pt FG%.

Very good addition for the $.

Coming from a Lakers fan, I found this move quite interesting, but he completely disappeared during the playoffs. I swear, during the second round of the Playoffs against OKC, Barnes was nowhere in sight. That's partially due to his horrid shooting in the Denver series where he shot nearly 27% and an abysmal 12% from the arc. He's good at running the floor and can fill in the lane, but that's all overshadowed by his inability to contribute on a consistent basis. His scoring was just way too sporadic.

What will most likely happen:

He'll probably be given limited minutes. Will do well during the season, but ultimately disappear during the Playoffs.

Just my take.

Barnes was also hurt going into the post season and was the Lakers best and probably only bench contributor last season
