I read something today connecting the clips to gilbert arenas. Although it is highly unlikely, would it be worth a shot to experiment on Gilbert as the 15th man and stash Leslie in the d-league to get his work in this year?

Supposedly someone saw him at a 76 gas station today and asked where he was possibily going, and he said its between the lakers and the clippers. I wouldnt mind having gildbert arenas as the 3rd string point guard off the bench you can never have too much security sense we are unshare about chaunceys health. I woul;d imagine the clippers waiving travis leslie and signing him, he also brings us play off experience in a ddition to being able to playoff the ball with cp3.

Wouldn't mind that. Especially if Chauncey might not be ready. If he is a cancer then you just cut him. You are going to be paying the the vet min anyways.

Travis Leslie is considered guaranteed. So yes, all roster spots are filled.

HOWEVER, Gilbert Arenas is a capably good shooter. He posted a career high 60 points against none other than the Lakers on December 17, 2006.

Other stats:

  • Good free throw shooter (hangs between the .70-.80 percentile; career best .844 in 2006-07 season)

  • Average 3-point shooter (hangs around the .30 percentile)

But I'm afraid Lakers will get him. Reason: Steve Blake's injury.

If, by a miracle the Clippers do nab him and end up cutting/buying out Leslie, it will be because of redemption reasons (just like with Jamal Crawford and Lamar Odom).

I liked Arenas back in the day but don't think he has it in him anymore to play good consistently.Rather keep Leslie on the roster because he has a partially guaranteed contract and we could cut him or send him to the D-League and get a free agent in case of injury.Arenas doesn't seem motivated anymore and showed it last season. He was getting paid either way so he just gave very little effort. Also not really a need for him because Billups and Paul shouldn't be out for long and we got enough guards. He might be a good fit for the Lakers but I think the Clippers should pass. But he does have a history with CP3 so if we do some how sign him I wouldn't be surprised. But I think CP3 said it best when he said this about Arenas haha

here is the article i found about it on rotoworld...i wouldnt mind adding him and cutting leslie...he would never see the floor unless of injury and i would trust him in a pinch over leslie..i will say do it if we can make it happen

Gilbert Arenas said that he is considering signing with the Lakers or Clippers for the 2012-13 season.

We're taking this with a major grain of salt. Arenas apparently told an auto mechanic in Los Angeles that both LA teams were on the table, but we've heard nothing to suggest that either club is legitimately interested. For what it's worth, ESPN's Chris Palmer reported in late May that Arenas could sign with the Lakers, but Arenas may simply be attempting to create a market for himself

I actually agree with you, Tense2. I never said Clippers should get Arenas. The gun incident many years ago ruined his reputation. To make matters worse, he was with the Grizzlies last season - the same team Clippers defeated in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs.

Thank God we "lost the coin flip" between us and the Wizards many years ago. I remember how dissapointed we were. The biggest bullet our franchise has ever dodged.

The thing is, when (some) people hear the name "Gilbert Arenas" they think of him in his prime. He's washed up now but he was pretty good not so long ago. That's why at first glance, you think, hey? not so bad. But I'll take Travis Leslie over him at this point.

I'll take Gil over Matt Barnes any day of the friggin' week. I highly doubt that there is much credibility to him coming here, but he'd be a much better addition than keeping Leslie on board. Gil is still explosive and has a lot of things he can bring to the game, including guns. If Chauncey goes down and there are a string of injuries to our PG/SG situation, he'd be a better fill in than Leslie. And if it doesn't work out, we can always waive him no problem. There will be plenty of players getting picked up and dropped throughout the year. Don't act like if we get Gilbert he will play more than spot minutes in a game.

I'm currently very pleased with our offseason and I think our bench is one of the better benches in the league, combine that with our great starting lineup and we got ourselves another playoff run!

I'd love to have Hibachi on the squad. If we could get a couple of 3 pointers out of him it might be worth the trouble. We don't really need much from him

Travis leslie is on a non gauranteed contract, and can get drop from the team. which could free up a roster spot, hes not gonna get any playing time this year behind, all the gaurd we have.

Here's some stats maybe put things straight

PPG: 4.2

FG%: 40%

3pt%: 33%

FT%: 70%

RPG: 1.1

Overall he's a decent third string point guard. Remember that he will NEVER start for us. As long as he's not a d*** and causes drama amongst the team I'm not against us picking him up.

Also he may be able to give us some insight into our new rivals the Grizzlies which I'm not against either. Same with Matt Barnes concerning the Lakers.

^ I don't think Gilbert's insight would even help us, we already know how to beat the Grizzlies even if they are up by 27 points 8)

Leslie is actually partially guaranteed for about 250k, and becomes fully guaranteed if he makes the opening day roster.

Only in the internet age could a conversation somebody supposedly had at a gas station become a rumor that other people are talking about.

And I would pass on Gilbert ... without a moment's hesitation.

Caron and Gil used to be good teammates back in DC. I wouldn't mind giving him a shot if it means NO LESLIE. Plus, he's a Socal native.

This is a good read with common sense on rumors and how this one got started:

How bad Rumors start: Gilbert Arenas to Lakers or Clippers

This is not a post about Gilbert Arenas. Not really. It's a post about how rumors start and how you need to be an educated media consumer when reading them. This is about knowing your sources of information.

We will start with some logic - the Lakers and Clippers are both top teams in the West, and both are teams that added a number of new, veteran pieces over the summer. For both, getting those pieces to meld together into a cohesive whole is a key part of training camp and the early season.

So both are thinking about bringing in Gilbert Arenas?

That doesn't really make a lot of sense, he would be a big personality and media draw off the court - meaning a distraction - who can provide little on the court anymore. And as someone who lives in Los Angeles let me just say it was not something I heard from a source I trust. But that was the rumor starting to work its way around the Web Tuesday.

Larry Brown Sports traced the rumor back to its origin.

Gilbert Arenas, who grew up in Los Angeles and played high school basketball in North Hollywood, Calif., stopped by a 76 gas station in Sherman Oaks on Tuesday a few blocks away from where I grew up. Gil took a photo with one of the mechanics - a gentleman who has worked on my car in the past - and answered a question about his future. Arenas apparently said he was likely to sign with the Lakers or Clippers for the upcoming season.

My mechanic tells someone who tells someone else who publishes the story on his basketball blog Hoops-Nation. From there, it ends up on a Lakers blog, and then our friends at Black Sports Online picked up on it, which is where I saw the story.

And this is how bad rumors get started and spread.

Here's the thing - players are often the worst people to ask about where they are going to play. Not all, but some (maybe many). Because they can be pumped up with hopes and false leads by their agents, or they start to infuse reality with what they wish would happen. Arenas is a Los Angeles guy who already has a home in the area, I bet he'd like to play for the Lakers or Clippers - two stacked teams in his hometown.

But that is not the reality. Never say never, but whatever is right next to never is where this rumor lives.

At a time when players you have never heard of are getting training camp invites, Gilbert Areas is still out there as a free agent. The Lakers and Clippers have loaded rosters and the spots they have they want to give to young players they might develop.

People, be an educated media consumer. Know where your rumors come from.

Arenas graduated from my alma mater.....Grant High School, but he was a wee bit after my time. 8)

wow Leslie has to clear two guaranteed time dates to stay on the team and get paid all his money? wow tough stuff thought after Aug.15th I think when he made the cut he was for sure part of the team.

Update:

L.A. native Gilbert Arenas was playing pickup ball in the Lakers' practice facility as recently as Thursday, but Arenas has yet to secure a training camp invite for the coming season.

Not from the Lakers or the Clippers, his two preferred destinations, or anyone else.

So

Sources with knowledge of Arenas' thinking told ESPN.com that the former All-Star is giving strong consideration to starting the season in China.

Arenas has spent the bulk of the offseason working out under the care of the trusted Joe Abunassar while dropping in on the occasional open gym at the Lakers' or Clippers' practice facilities and, by all accounts, looking good in those pickup games.

Im currently fighting tears as I compose this post. Truely the greatest Clipper moment. Coach Vinny needs to play that clip before every game. Seeing the excitement in the players' faces when Blake grabbed that rebound Bledsoe threw the ball in the air is something I will never forget. That has to go down as one the NBA's greatest games.

Edit: just saw clip again still fighting tears and paid more attention to the Grizzlies fans' facial expressions.
