In May, the Clippers picked up the option on Del Negro's contract, giving him a third season as coach for about $2 million. Still, Del Negro, 46, enters the new season in the final year of his contract.

No contract extension offers yet.

There's been "some" talk of extension actually per the LA Times article:

Del Negro said there has been "a little bit" of discussion about his contract extension, but there is "no sense of urgency for either side" to get a deal done right away.

We're going to be reading this kind of article all year.

"Of course, I wish it was under maybe a different situation," Del Negro said. "But I was on a one-year deal last year and I'm still here and enjoying myself and believe in what we're doing. I think all those things work themselves out over time."

F*ck 'em all, Vinny... best of luck!

Can we at least wait until the season starts before we get into the VDN bashing threads? Seriously.

Maybe that "some talk" was that they weren't gonna talk about an extension anymore Wink

I agree with all of this. Vinny should only get an extension if the Clippers make it past the second round. Despite how great the Lakers, Spurs and Thunder are, this team is too talented and full of good chemistry to not make it to the WCF. Even if the Clippers make it to the WCF. A Championship is within reach but that depends on the heart of the Clippers.

Let's wait until ,,oh say Jan,,before we start this crap fest again,,,and by that I mean the fire Vinny nonsense.

I think a lot of it depends if Vinny will work cheap or not. If we get to the WCF or beyond,,Vinny (like any coach) will expect a hefty raise. That could be the deciding point (and the rent DTS will have to pay to the new AEG owner),,not W-L, not how far we have gone. If we get only as far as this last seasons,,all bets are off.

As Dodger STH I do see a parity with our Clips and the Dodgers. Right when You least expect something to happen,,out of the blue it does. None of us thought Don Mattingly would get an extension and we thought he would be gone,,but out of the Blue (and not Dodger blue) he gets it for no reason. Don't be surprised if Vinny gets an extension for now apparent reason.

last year we assembled a team consisting of chris paul, chauncey billups, caron butler, deandre jordan, and blake griffin. Our second unit consisted of gomes, foye, kenyon martin, mo williams, and eric bledsoe. we were dealt a devastating blow by the loss of billups then suffered injuries to blake griffin, chris paul, and caron butler. a lot of people here preached patience on asking for vinnies head due to injury, lack of a bench, and first year chemistry. now all those excuses should be gone. Vinny is set up perfectly. i think anything less than a western conference finals appearance is an utter failure. also win or lose i hope we battle to the end, make it a seven game zeries, and if we lose i hope we beat the opposing team down so bad that many of their players are injured. we need to send a message: even if you beat us it will cost you. even though we beat memphis last year their players were so physical that our two best players were injured and werent the same after that. i dont care for cheap shots and dirty plays, but we need to have teams scared to play against us.

Yeah and that's not dirty play that's just heart, physical play comes from the heart, and the better team wins, as it was with Memphis!

Nice guy but not a competent coach. No extension unless he proves himself to be a decent coach at the very least. This team is good enough to make it the WCF or even Finals. If we don't make it to the WCF we better lose in 6 or 7 in the second round at least imo. Believe it or not good coaching makes a huge difference. The Spurs would not have had as much success without Popovich.

There's no telling what coaches will be available after this season ends. I think sometimes that factors in to a mediocre coach getting an extra year. But I believe the organization wants to see if we improve or not. That will ultimately decide his fate.

Great/good coaches do make a difference, it's just that there are so few around to chose from.

True most of the best coaches are retired or have a stable coaching job(Popovich, Rivers). I think Stan would have been a good choice. Also what about Sloan? I think Mike Budenholzer would be a good HC as well.

Well, not this offseason. There was some good coaches available (still are) and VDN got an extension. Can you imagine of the Clipps had hired Stan VG with Howard in town? The Clipps/ Lakes games would have been even bigger wars than they will alreayd be!
