y make this trade when there is no assurance he even stays with us? We would basically be giving away like CK or some young players for a guy who will only be here 1 season.

Well, there is no specific trade proposal so we would not know what we are giving up yet. And, they wouldn't give up anything substantive unless Carmelo agrees to an extension. Otherwise they just give up a future second round pick like they did when they got Camby, whose contract was also expiring soon.

    but carmelo is basically their team, so imo if he doesnt accept the extension they would want to get something substantial for him and not just cap room.
