Once again the Clippers have a chance to get younger and more talented. With the 8th and 12th picks in the up coming NBA draft the Clippers have a rare opportunity to pick according to their need or decide solely on talent. The only downside with the Clippers' picks are the lack of standout prospects remainning after the Knicks make their selection. Like many other teams, the Clippers needs are at Center to back up the Kandiman and a Point Guard to spell Jeff McInnis. Assuming Mr. Sterling approves the move to resign them. Although a fan favorite, Earl Boykin is not the long term solution to McInnis' backup and Keyon Dooling's stock value has dropped dramatically as a result of two consecutive injury marred seasons. It is highly unlikely Sean Rooks will return with the Clippers for another season, creating a need for another big body. If Elgin Baylor bases his decisions on need, anticipate him to select Curtis Borchardt of Standford and Nickoloz Tskitishvili. Bourchardt is a 7 foot tall center, an excellent shot blocker and rebounder. He has a very soft touch in the post, with a shooting range out to three point land, and can run the floor fairly gracefully. Tskitishvili is a very young 18 year old with tremendous upside. He can shoot from long range, battle for rebounds, has very good agility and can run the floor and did i mention his is only 18. With a 6'11" frame he could potentially grow another few inches. It is highly unlikely Baylor will gamble for a PG with any of his two picks. Aside from Jay Williams the lack of PG prosects will make it hard to fill the Clippers' need for a backup PG. Balyor and Coach Gentry will give Dooling one last shot to show what he can do.

Curtis Borchardt and Tskitishvili are certainly good choices for the Clippers if they are available. If the Clippers draft Tskitishvili they should probably have him play in Europe for one more year before he comes over. Rumor has it that McInnis will probably not be resigned, so a heady-PG like Dan Dickau will be a good choice I think, though he probably doesn't warrant the 8th or 12th pick. In a recent chat transcript posted at Clippers.com Gentry indicated that he would like to bring on PG Marco Jaric, the Clippers 2nd round pick from last year (or the year before I forget which), from Europe. Michael Smith has mentioned quite a few times how impressive Jaric has been in Europe, so we'll have to see. Main thing I think the Clippers need more outside shooters. Piatkowski, Q, and sometimes McInnis were the only credible outside threats for the team last season, but a backup center/PG who can really shoot it consistently will be a huge help in spreading the offense.
