After watching the painful game 5 loss, I had a very hard time getting to sleep. When I finally did, I had a terrible nightmare about what went on in the huddle near the end of the first overtime with the Clippers leading by 3. Coach had his team huddled around him...
"Ok guys, here it is...the winning game-plan. Elton Brand has the wingspan of a 7-footer and would be a perfect guy to bother the inbound passer and make it difficult to see an open shooter. However, I think we need to sit Elton and put Cat Mobley on the passer and see what happens. Now Walter McCarty, your a veteran guy and I feel bad about not putting you in very much in this series. Why don't you stretch out that old body and get in there and play some defense for the final 3 seconds. And finally, I saved the best for last. Daniel Ewing, you're a rookie who hasn't played a major part in our season since Shaun Livingston came back from the early season injury. Forget the wise veterans we have. Let's get you in there and get you some playoff experience in the most important game of Clipper playoff history. Don't worry that you're going to be guarding the stronger, taller Raja Bell who just happens to be the Sun's hottest shooter. I think you can do it Daniel! Go out there and make my plan work to perfection!"
We all know what happen after that. Yes, hindsight is 20-20 but I don't think any Clipper fan would have chosen to have a rookie on the court at such a big moment. I still believe that the Clippers will win game 6 and 7; but it shouldn't have had to be this hard. I hate to criticize a coach, but I think he truely earned the title Coach "Dumb"leavy when we look at his decisions during the most critical time of this game. Hopefully, the Clippers can overcome the mistakes of not only themselves, but of their coach also!

Yeah EB would've been a great choice to guard that inbounds pass w/ his long arms, and w/ the focus and determination he brings.... Singleton w/ his great jumping ability would've been a good choice also. Sigh- oh well- let's see what this team is really made out of tonight.

We know a lot about what the plan was, but not a lot of insight as to why. We do know that coach has actually practiced and used that scenario during past game with those players on the floor. If the plan was to divert the pass out top and have quick (not exhausted) hustle players to foul intentionally before the shooting motion, then we had the right players on the floor. Moreover, if fouling intentionally, there might be starters that we do not want to foul in case the game is tied and continues on. Having said that, even a 6' 6" player should be able to divert a pass in one direction. An even taller player with long arms is needed to harass a pass in all directions. It was indeed a miracle play and a miracle shot for Raja Bell. So why are we waiting until Monday to find out how this ends? JamFan
