[excerpt] Elton Brand scored 20 points and Corey Maggette added 18 to help the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 97-89 in an exhibition game Wednesday night.

Sam Cassell, Shaun Livingston and Cuttino Mobley added 15 points apiece for the Clippers, with Livingston had 10 assists.

Cassell played his second game of the preseason after missing the previous five because of a strained left calf. He played 23 minutes and added six assists and one steal.

Nice to see Sam I Am scoring as always...I picked him for my NBA Fantasy team so let's see if he can do the same season than last year even though it seems that Shaun will steal him a couple of minutes...¿Is Kaman going to be ready for the opening game?

Yeah kind of funny- Sam was 4-4 with 4 assists in his first 10 minutes or so (the game wasn't on TV, but you could imagine his swagger and confidence at that point :-)), then he went 2 for 11 the rest of the way :-). The Blazers actually came back and tied it with like 5 minutes to go but Brand and Maggette along w/ Livingston made the big baskets down the stretch for the win. As for Kaman, according to the injury report:

    http://www.nba.com/clippers/news/injuryreport0607.html

He's the only Clipper other than Rebraca not healthy. He's listed as doubtful, but it seems like he'll be ready for the opener. It would be nice to see him play the last pre-season game at least. It'd also be nice if he'd put his name on the dotted line on his contract offer before it expires in 5 days. :-)

The stat sheet on Livingston was great. 15 points, 10 assist. Livingston will make or break my fantasy team.

Yeah with 4 steals and a block to boot- looks like Shaun is turning up the D as well. Hopefully he's gonna keep filling up the stats sheet for your team- seems like he's en route to numbers like 12 pts, 8 assists, 4 boards, and 1 steal a game.

Yeah, Livingston may not get a lot of minutes with Sam on the lineup (though I think Livingston will be starting), but I think he'll be effective in the time that he plays.

His scoring has improved, but almost anyone on the Clippers can score. The only thing that worries about Shaun is that he can be prone to turnovers. I've seen plenty of times where 3 or 5 turnovers are the norm for him. Hopefully he'll improve in those regards.

I've seen that too- I'm sure that with more experience and the coaching staff's help he will cut down the turnovers. Last year he improved the assist-to-turnover ratio from 2-1 to ~2.5-1. A 3.5-1 or 3-1 ratio seems like a good goal for him this season.
