MIke Dunleavy Still Coming To The Clippers

ALERT - MANAGEMENT FROM BOTH TEAMS DENY DISCUSSIONS HAVE TAKEN PLACE EVEN THOUGH COACH DUNLEAVY SPOKE TO THE PACERS FOR ALMOST AN HOUR (ABOUT THE WEATHER?) ALERT - ESPN REPORTS THAT COACH DUNLEAVY IS STILL LOBBYING FOR A TRADE TO BRING HIS SON TO THE CLIPPERS, OTHER REPORTS CONFIRM. ALERT- REPORTS CONFIRM THAT CLIPPERS MANAGEMENT ARE RESISTING A STRAGHT ACCROSS TRADE OF MAGGETTE FOR DUNLEAVY. Coach Dunleavy, who is supposed to be the great talent evaluator, has been exposed in TopBuzz as being the great pretender when it comes to evaluating talent. But his eyes could not be any more blind than when it comes to his own son, Mike Dunleavy. Drafted early in the first round 4 years ago by Golden State, and after being traded yesterday to Indiana, there were all kinds of GM's and other talent evaluators who declared Mike a bust for Golden State. The scouting report is that he is very inconsistant and can't shoot straight. The skinny is that most NBA players miss more often by shooting short or long. Mike misses by shooting left or right. He is the shooter who literally can't shoot straight. Proof is that he only shoots 34% from the 3, and in his last 3 games scored 4 pts, 2 pts, and 18 pts. Since he had worn out his welcome in Golden State and finally traded to Indiana, he wore out his welcome in Indiana in only one day. The Pacers are already on the phone trying to trade Mike Dunleavy to the Clippers for Corey Maggette. Based on his Dad's comments yesterday after Mike's trade to Indiana, that basically said that he was disappointed because he had hoped to trade for his son because of his high basketball IQ and great shooting ability. But unike Mike Dunleavy, Corey Maggette consistantly produces every night. And everyone knows that if you were to move Maggette, the Clippers glaring need is a dead eye 3 point shooter, which Mike Dunleavy is not. All this will not keep Dumleavy from making another talent evaluating mistake. Since he was so disappointed yesterday, he is probably elated today because the Pacers already want to move Mike Dunleavy over to the Clippers. They are looking for a sucker, and the only one they can find is his Dad. They seem to have no interest in Mike's inabilities, and see Corey Maggette as a major upgrade. We can only hope that Elgin Baylot stops all this insanity, and either keeps Corey Maggette or waits for a better deal, like Ray Allen. If you had the rights to Ray Allen, would you trade him for Mike Dunleavy? Not unless you had just drank two bottle of Tequila. But Coach Dunleavy is drunk with his admiration of his own son. Let's hope that wiser and more stable minds prevail and this deal does not go through. JamFan

I really hope Elgin Baylor will make the correct decision. Maggette is still playing pretty good.

Er- Maggette for Dunleavy Jr.??? Heck no! Okay maybe Mobley for Dunleavy Jr. but no way Maggette for Dunleavy unless the management is on crack. I think Dunleavy Jr reminds me of Luke Walton- I mean he's got skills but I think Luke is better at this point. Maggette is a proven 20 ppg scorer and Dunleavy Jr. never averaged more than 11 and change.

I'd be in favor of a Mobley-Dunleavy trade, but have my doubts about a Maggette-Dunleavy trade. Actually, trading Cuttino for Mike may be better for both teams. The players basically have the same contract, except that Mobley has one more year on his. The Pacers may be in need of a veteran player, considering they got some young guys on their team. Mobley may also fill a need at shooting guard and give the Pacers a three-point shooter. While Maggette could play shooting guard for them, his lack of outside shooting may be a problem.
The Pacers line-up right now probably includes Murphy at center, O'Neal at power forward, Granger at small forward, and Tinsley at point guard. They need to plug someone in at shooting guard....Dunleavy, Mobley, or Maggette. Maybe the Clippers can try to give Mobley away to Indiana in order to get Dunleavy. That way, Maggette stays for now and if a better offer comes around...say Maggette and Livingston for Ray Allen...then the Clippers have options.
If any trade goes down for Dunleavy, Indiana can't package him with anyone else from their team. He's got to be traded by himself to another team for one or more players. It's one of those NBA rules after a player has just been traded and can't be waived until two months after the first trade goes down.

Whoops...I said Mobley has one more year on his contract. Dunleavy is the one with one extra year on his. This may be an incentive to the trade for Indiana. Mobley is signed through 2009, while Dunleavy is signed through 2010 and the last year is for $10.5 million. While it's not a huge difference, maybe Indiana would want a contract with one less year...plus the veteran presence that Mobley would bring.

It was just rumor- thankfully:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/clippers/la-sp-cliprep19jan19,1,1191501.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-nba-clippe
The Clippers and Indiana Pacers moved to end speculation of a potential Maggette-Mike Dunleavy Jr. trade.
Before Wednesday's game, the Warriors sent forwards Dunleavy, Troy Murphy, Ike Diogu and guard Keith McLeod to Indiana. They received forward Al Harrington, swingman Stephen Jackson, forward Josh Powell and guard Sarunas Jasikevicius.
"I talked to Indiana today for 45 minutes and there was no talk of any kind of deal," Coach Mike Dunleavy said. "He's there because they want him there."
Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh said a report about a proposed trade was "absolutely untrue."

Well, the LA Times report says that there is no deal cooking, but teams often deny discussions of trades. However, ESPN is reporting just this morning that Coach Dumleavy is still lobbying for a trade for his son and that it is Clippers management that is resisting any such trade. I agree with Benoit, if Coach is hell bent on getting his son, give them Mobley. Despite shortcomings that Mike Jr. has displayed so far in his young career, he might have some upside that the proper coach could discover. Could he play here under less pressure than he did as the #3 pick in the draft at Golden State? Is his dad the proper coaching situation? Don't know. But I do know that Maggette is worth more and so does Clipper management.
