    Clippers 90, Rockets 108

The Clippers dug themselves a huge hole they could not recover from and lost to the Rockets, 108-90 (box score). The Rockets were on fire in the first quarter and the Clippers quite simply did not make any effective adjustments on defense to slow down the Houston offense. The help defense was virtually non-existent, and the individual defense was just horrible. The only bright spot was Odom's great game- 30 points and 10 boards. I thought he could've had 40 points if his teammates had given him the ball more. The thing is that he should be capable of this every night- at least the penetrations and the ability to draw double teams. Hopefully Lamar can show more more these type of performances the rest of the way. But whoever comes in to coach the Clippers for the next season I hope he at least tries Odom at point guard.

So you have pretty much given up on DJ?

No not quite, but I can't say I'm overly impressed- what about you?

I would love having Odom at the point either as a guard or forward. But he need a coach who is a disciplinarian, who isn't afraid to get in his face when he makes the same silly mistakes.

Also I think Jaric is perfect as the "other" point, because he doesn't need to dribble the ball all the time to get into a rhythm like Miller. And he's willing to share the ball w/ Odom. Just like in the world games, he didn't mind deferring to Bodirga (spelling?) who is the point forward for the Serbs.

Yeah I agree- somebody like Larry Brown/Pat Riley would be perfect for him. Good things tend to happen when Odom has the ball and he's in the right frame of mind- e.g. he's not overly agitated, frustrated, or just out of it for some reason. I think how he plays all depends on his mental state- if he's calm and confident he tends to play really well. And yeah if he's out there with Jaric usually the ball movement is pretty good. If Marko works to really develop his outside shot he is going to be some player. His basketball smarts and defense are already terrific.

I haven't been at all impressed by DJ, I'm still wondering if replacing Gentry with him was a smart move.
Odom needs some to yank his chain sometimes, which DJ does not do. DJ does it to everyone else, but not him.
At the game they said Dunleavy was looking for work.

Yeah that was kind of interesting how Dunleavy was there- it felt like Ralph and Mike were restraining themselves to make a comment about his presense and the possible Clipper coaching vacancy for next season.

Ditto- he would be like another Alvin Gentry probably.

But it's not like DJ's out there cracking the whip every night, and he was supposed to be tougher.
