    Clippers 89, Nets 108

Posted by: david on Thursday, January 10, 2002 - 06:49 PM
    Clipper News
The Clippers fell to New Jersey tonight, 108-89 (box scores). The Clips are now only .500 following yet another road defeat. Lately the team simply has not been able to rack up the points as they would like- scoring often in the 80s or low 90s. The field goal percentage has been in the 30s, low 40s, and the free throwing has been very poor- about 65%. And tonight, getting out-rebounded 52-35 is simply inexcusable. A shooting slump is understandable, but not putting out the 100% effort to win is not.

    Clippers 88, Wizards 96

    Clipper News
Despite holding Michael Jordon to 9 of 24 shooting, the Clippers still lost to the Wizards tonight, 96-88 (box scores. A very disappointing loss for the Clips because this was one of the games on the road trip they were counting on winning. Lamar Odom had to leave in the second quarter to the flu, and the Clips certainly could've used him in the decisive third quarter when the Clipers were outscored 29-15. Olowokandi played 25 minutes, and had only zero points and 2 rebounds??? Q continues to struggle, going 2-10 from the field (1-6 3-pointers). McInnis and Brand did play very well but in vain. The Clips have a much needed day off tomorrow and things certainly aren't going to be any easier Thursday at New Jersey- the team with the best record in the Eastern Conference.

    Clippers 92, Sixers 116

    Clipper News
The Clippers drop the first of their six-game road trip, losing 116-92 (box scores)to Philadelphia. The Clips shot an atrocious 35% for the game. When Odom and Brand, your two best players, combine for a nightmarish 7 for 29, well, you're gonna lose- especially on a night when the Sixers shoot nearly 52%. Allen Iverson really took it to the Cippers with 30 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. He outrebounded Olowokandi 10-6. Kandi has been playing well though so we'll forgive him for that :-).

    Clippers waive Eldridge Recasner

    Clipper News
The Clippers have waived Eldrige Recasner. Recasner played in only nine minutes in his brief stint with the Clippers. This move possibly signals the imminent return of Keyon Dooling from the injured list. Speaking of Keyon, check out this Q&A session Clippers.com had with him if you haven't already.

According to this AP story, Earl Boykins has been invited to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, though the day is not yet finalized. This is very cool news for the Clippers and the little man who plays big :-).

    Clippers 86, Bucks 83

Posted by: david on Saturday, January 05, 2002 - 09:58 PM
    Clipper News
A clutch 3 pointer with 1.5 seconds left in the game by Jeff McInnis lifted the Clippers to a 86-83 hard-fought victory (box scores) over Milwaukee. With time running down Odom drove to the middle of the lane and dished it out to McInnis who canned the shot without hesitation. Corey Maggette also had a clutch acrobatic layout during the Clippers' previous offensive set. Odom lead 5 Clippers in double-figures with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists. Some good per-minute production from the bench from Piatkowski (9 points in 14 minutes) and Q (12 in 19). The Clippers blew a 18 point lead when the Bucks started to make their shots and had to come back in the fourth. And how about the great D played by Miles against the red-hot Ray Allen?!

According to this LA Times story, ESPN is making a 7-hour mini-series on the Clippers! Here's a snip:

The Clippers will be trailed for the next two months by crews from ESPN, which will air seven one-hour segments on the team as part of its "Sidelines" program later this season. The cable network featured a behind-the-scenes look at the Texas A&M football team during the fall.

    Clippers 82, Nuggets 80

Posted by: david on Friday, January 04, 2002 - 08:26 PM
    Clipper News
It was scary but the Clips escaped Denver with a thrilling 82-80 victory (box scores). Lamar Odom had his best game of the year with 27 points, 7 assists, and 7 boards (including 2-2 from deep)- he was terrific. Lamar missed two critical free throws, however, with about 5 seconds in the game but Denver missed its chance to tie. Jeff McInnis and Corey Maggette were the only other Clippers in double-figures with 10 and 12, respectively. Maggette was especially solid with his D (taking charges left and right) and committing only a single turnover in 27 minutes of play. Brand struggled a bit with only 9 points but he still managed to grab 13 boards. Elton and Kandi both seem to have some trouble with Raef LaFraenz. The Clippers had 22 assists on 33 FG's, which is not bad at all. They did get outrebounded by Denver by a 53-43 margin, however, and shot only 41%. Q continues to struggle a bit on the road with only 5 points in 15 minutes. BTW, what's up the delayed radio broadcast??? It's bad enough that not enough Clipper games are on TV, but you know it's bad when the radio broadcast is delayed.

    Clippers 91, Kings 105

Posted by: david on Wednesday, January 02, 2002 - 09:14 PM
    Clipper News
The Kings continued their home court dominance tonight, beating the Clippers 105-91 (box scores). The Clips simply could not hit many outside shots- shots that were falling-aplenty last night. On the other hand the Kings were quite accurate from long range, especially when it mattered. Lamar Odom and Michael Olowokandi were back and played fairly well although they turned the ball over too many times (10 combined between the two). Overall the Clippers had 19 assists but 18 turnovers- contrast with the Kings' 34 assists and only 7 turnovers. Hopefully the Clips can come back strong Friday against the Nuggests.

    Clippers 112, Blazers 97

Posted by: david on Tuesday, January 01, 2002 - 08:18 PM
    Clipper News
Without Odom, without Olowokandi, the Clippers defeat the Blazers rather easier tonight, 112-97 (box scores). Some sensational outside shooting from McInnis (who was scorchin'), Miles (3 for 3 jump shots!),and Boykins did Portland in. Pike started tonight and did well with 10 points- one of 7 Clippers in double-figures. Elton Brand was solid with 16 points, 8 boards, and 5 big blocks while holding Rasheed Wallace at bay. The Clips combine for a total of 29 assists which is also very encouraging. Now the team will go on the road for 20 of their next 29 games- if they can go about .500 for those games they should be in great shape for securing a playoff spot.

    Clippers 103, Celtics 105

Posted by: david on Saturday, December 29, 2001 - 04:07 PM
    Clipper News
The Clippers lost a tough one in OT today to Boston, 105-103 (box scores). The Clips seemed to have the win in hand when Q drained a huge BINGO with about a minut and a half to go to give the team a 4 point lead in OT. But like lightning the Celtics struck right back with a pair of 3's to take a two point lead which they never relinquished. Elton Brand had a great game with 24 points and 19 boards, but he missed a couple of huge free throws (1 in regulation and a pair that would've tied the game with 15 seconds left in OT). He did make 12-15 overall, but I'm sure he feels terrible about those 3 misses. Michael Olowokandi played very well also with 6 points, 20 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Darius Miles played 51 minutes and almost got a triple-double with 15-8-8 which is very encouraging. McInnis and Maggette, however, continue to struggle shooting the ball from the field, going a combined 12-34. The team as a whole shot only 37%. The Clips did dominate the Celtics on the boards by a 66-48 margin, which shows how hard the team played. The Clips were only 5-18 for 3's while the Celtics nailed 9 out of 21- easily the difference of the game.

    Clippers 90, Sonics 101

Posted by: david on Friday, December 28, 2001 - 05:26 PM
    Clipper News
Gary Payton was unstoppable in the fourth quarter as he single-handedly took control of the game and gave the Sonics a 101-90 victory (box scores) over the Clippers. The Clips shot a woeful 32% from the field but almost made up for it with amazing 38 for 41 from the charity stripe. The team definitely missed Odom and Piatkowski, but credit the Sonics for playing good defense and making all the big shots in the 4th. Darius started the game, played 32 minutes but had only 4 points and 6 boards. Olowankandi didn't play too well either- 0 point and 8 boards in 21 minutes. McInnis and Maggette got their points but shot poorly from the field- these two have been in a shooting slump for a while now so hopefully they can heat up soon.

    Clippers 86, Sixers 100

Posted by: david on Wednesday, December 26, 2001 - 10:19 PM
    Clipper News
The 76ers snapped the Clipper's 3-game winning streak tonight by a 100-86 margin (box scores). The Clips simply could not stop dribble-penetration (mostly by Iverson) and had to resort to a lot of fouling. The Sixers also shot the ball surprisingly well, especially from the outside. They even outrebounded the Clippers 42-38. Derrick Coleman especially grabbed a lot important boards. Elton Brand battled hard and got 26 points and 13 rebounds. Olowakandi was hot and ended up with 16 and 9. But no one else really stepped up. It's actually to be expected that Q will struggle a little now and then and that's when Piatkowski is sorely missed. Now it'd be very rare if they both struggle in the same game.
