Backcourt must produce for team to make playoffs

Posted by: david on Thursday, August 16, 2001 - 07:21 PM
    Clipper News
[excerpt] The Clippers were the darlings of draft night when they acquired power forward Elton Brand from the Bulls, but they haven't done much since. That the team knows who the key players in its rotation are in August is a sign of progress, but there is room for improvement.

Miles outshines Jordan in pickup games

Posted by: david on Thursday, August 09, 2001 - 09:50 PM
    Clipper News
[excerpt] Miles has done everything but rest during his second summer out of high school. He has been a regular in the weight room, he dominated in the Long Beach summer league and was the best player in pickup games at Michael Jordan's camp in Santa Barbara recently -- pickup games that included Jordan. Miles taught college grad Shane Battier a couple of lessons in a game at Long Beach by dunking over him on one play and leaving him behind with a crossover move on another.

Clipper future depends on 22-year-old Odom

Posted by: david on Thursday, August 09, 2001 - 12:40 PM
    Clipper News
[excerpt] They will be trying to make the playoffs with a 22-year-old as team leader.

They will be one of the 10 best-shooting teams in the league with a third-year player as team leader.

A leader who was disciplined twice in 2000-01, once by the league and once by the Clips, who will be 21 until the new season is a week old, who attended three high schools in New York and Connecticut and two colleges before jumping to the NBA after 32 games and one campaign at Rhode Island. A leader who is everything they want to be and everything they want to put in the past.

What, a Clipper team that can't wait to play?

Posted by: david on Thursday, August 09, 2001 - 12:32 PM
    Clipper News
[excerpt] We never thought we'd write this, but if you wanna be cool, become a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. Yeah, they never win anything and their fan base would rather wear grocery bags on their heads than be picked out of a crowd. We searched for articles about them in the local papers and we couldn't find anything since the draft. But look at them, people. They don't stink! Elton Brand wants to be here! We're going to write something positive about the Clippers because, frankly, they deserve it. See if you can follow along without laughing.

Clippers want to talk contract extension with Kandi

Posted by: david on Wednesday, August 08, 2001 - 09:57 PM
    Clipper News
ESPN is reporting that the Clippers totally surprised Olowakandi's agent Billy Duffy Tuesday by offering to discuss a contract extension. Kandi is still in the U.K. and won't be back until tomorrow, but when he gets back they will sit down and decide if they even want to entertain the idea at this point. It seems that management is really serious this time and want to lock everyone up for the big push for the playoffs. Way to go!

[excerpt] Cherokee Parks carries his journeyman tag to yet another destination. The 6-11 forward-center signed with the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. Terms were not disclosed.A first-round pick in 1995, Parks will join his sixth NBA team and third in two seasons.

Parks, who turns 29 in October, will serve as a backup to San Antonio's "Twin Towers" of Tom Duncan and David Robinson, a role filled by Samaki Walker last season. Walker signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Cherokee Parks about to sign with Spurs

Posted by: david on Thursday, August 02, 2001 - 10:32 PM
    Clipper News
According to ESPN, Clippers free agent F/C Cherokee Parks is about to sign a one year deal with the Spurs. I hope the Clips do something because Parks definitely played above expectations at PF consistently hitting 15-20 footers along the baselines, rebounding, and defending.

    ESPN The Magazine: Gettin' Wet

Posted by: david on Sunday, July 29, 2001 - 02:43 AM
    Clipper News
[excerpt] Darius Miles is getting a standing ovation. He has just finished a summer league game by rebounding a ball, putting it behind his back, dribbling up court, dishing a no-look pass, rebounding his teammate's miss and dunking. But he would rather not talk about this. He'd rather talk about Elton Brand, Lamar Odom and Shane Battier's mouth.

    Competition in West remaining strong

Posted by: david on Thursday, July 26, 2001 - 06:40 PM
    Clipper News
[excerpt] But the Clippers also need help from non-playoff teams like Houston, Denver and Seattle. With so many solid teams in the West and most of the teams making solid moves in the offseason, the Clippers playoff quest appears to be a very difficult one.
