    Clippers 91, Blazers 71

    Clipper News
[excerpt] ``We knew they were hungry and that they were going to come out that way -- but we were hungrier,'' Brand said.

Richardson left because of a sprained back with 6:57 left in the third quarter and the Clippers ahead 58-45. He grabbed an offensive rebound and attempted a layup that was rejected by Theo Ratliff. The force of the block sent Richardson crashing to the floor, and Shareef Abdur-Rahim fell on top of him.

``As of right now he'll probably miss some games, but I don't know,'' Maggette said. ``He already had back spasms in the game before against Memphis. Hopefully he'll be better.''

    Clippers 92, Grizzlies 98

    Clipper News
[excerpt] The win was the Grizzlies' fourth straight against the Clippers, and improved Memphis' record to 18-17 against them. The Grizzlies do not have a winning record against any other team since joining the league in the 1995-96 season.

``I think we're far better than them, but they're just playing good basketball,'' Los Angeles' Corey Maggette said. ``We have stretches where we play good and play bad, but they're playing consistent, doing the right things and not making mistakes. I think we've got a lot of things going here. We just need to get in synch. It'll happen, sooner or later.''

Maggette and Elton Brand each scored 18 points for the Clippers, who have lost four straight and 11 of 14. Maggette also had six rebounds and a career-high seven assists.

[excerpt] Artest tied it 87-all 15 seconds later with an eight-footer in the lane and the Clippers called timeout. Eddie House shot an airball on a desperation 3-point try over Tinsley at the regulation buzzer.

``It hurts to lose like that,'' Brand said after the Clippers' 13th loss in 13 games. ``It was a wasted 48 minutes. We played great, but Ron Artest hit some big shots and they came back. There were a lot of great plays on his behalf, but we should have somehow pulled this one off.''

    Clippers 106, Kings 113

    Clipper News
[excerpt] ``I guess Webber was really rusty,'' Los Angeles coach Mike Dunleavy said. ``I'd hate to see him when he warms up.''

Webber replaced Miller in the starting lineup, but the All-Star center responded with 23 points and nine rebounds -- including 17 points in 17 first-half minutes -- in his first game as Webber's teammate. Divac also thrived in reduced minutes, getting 12 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Stojakovic, the NBA's third-leading scorer, had 23 points for the Kings, who improved the NBA's best record to 44-15. Sacramento also increased its Pacific Division lead over the Lakers to six games following Los Angeles' 94-93 loss in Atlanta.

Corey Maggette scored 32 points for the Clippers, who lost for the fourth time in five games despite a strong effort from their stars. Brand had 25 points and Quentin Richardson added 17. Los Angeles went 19-for-20 at the free throw line.

``It was a great game, having C-Webb back,'' Maggette said. ``I've never been to the playoffs, but it felt like a playoff game. He just did a great jobfor his first game back.''

    Clippers 88, Pistons 100

Posted by: david on Sunday, February 29, 2004 - 05:38 PM
    Clipper News
[excerpt] Elton Brand had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Quentin Richardson added 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers, who have lost eight of 11.

The Pistons went on a 20-3 run and turned a 70-61 deficit into an 81-73 lead with 6:55 remaining. Billups capped the comeback with 10:26 left in the fourth quarter, hitting a 3-pointer to give the Pistons a 76-73 lead -- their first since the opening period.

``We were playing physical in the first half, but their intensity stepped up and we played soft,'' Brand said. ``We didn't protect the ball and they went on the break. I could think of many times when Billups, Ben Wallace and even Tayshaun Prince went in for layups. That hurt us a lot. We didn't have the intensity that we needed because we had a lot of turnovers late in the game.''

[excerpt] Bobby Simmons did for the Los Angeles Clippers what Kurt Thomas couldn't do for the New York Knicks -- make a clutch jumper with the game on the line.

Simmons hit go-ahead 19-footer with 21.3 seconds remaining and Quentin Richardson scored 23 points as the Clippers extended the New York Knicks' losing streak to five games with a 96-94 victory Friday night.

Elton Brand had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Clippers, who had lost seven of their previous nine games.

    Clippers 93, Hornets 99

    Clipper News
[excerpt] Elton Brand led Los Angeles with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while reserve Chris Wilcox had 18, including a dunk that cut New Orleans' lead to 93-91 inside the final 30 seconds. But the Clippers were forced to foul, and Darrell Armstrong made four free throws in the final 20 seconds.

``I'm frustrated. Davis made some big shots, Magloire up for the rebounds, Mashburn solid all game,'' Brand said. ``We just can't get over the hump. Turnovers here, bad plays here, a lack of execution there and that's the ballgame.''

    Iverson to the Clippers?

    Posted by: clipperfan35 on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 05:02 PM
    Clipper News
According to Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News, the Clippers are interested in the Sixer's guard Allen Iverson:

"The Clippers will be first on line to try to deal for Allen Iverson around the draft. L.A.'s other team always has had a thing for Iverson, who likely will be shipped out if the Sixers decide to do the right thing and finally rebuild."

    Clippers 105, Bucks 103

Posted by: david on Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 12:21 AM
    Clipper News
[excerpt] Elton Brand spoiled Keith Van Horn's Milwaukee debut, and Michael Redd blew the Bucks' chance to force overtime.

Brand had 31 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks Saturday night in the Clippers' 105-103 victory over the Bucks that snapped a five-game road losing streak.

Redd, an 89 percent free throw shooter, was fouled by Corey Maggette while attempting a desperation 3-pointer with one-tenth of a second left and the Bucks trailing 105-102.

``I'm thinking overtime,'' Bucks coach Terry Porter said.

But, after Clippers guard Quentin Richardson walked across the lane, Redd missed his first free throw attempt. He made the second, then committed a lane violation while deliberately missing his third.

    Clippers 102, Celtics 100

    Clipper News
[excerpt] Brand scored 24 of his season-high 39 points in the first half, and the Clippers overcame the early ejection of Quentin Richardson to end a five-game losing streak. Brand also had 11 rebounds and blocked six shots.

``He was tough tonight -- especially when he was hitting those outside jumpers,'' Boston's Chris Mihm said. ``We were doing a good job of rotating to him, but I can't remember many, if any, jumpers he was missing from the outside on pick-and-rolls.

``He's a big body down low and he knows how to use it to draw contact. So when he's hitting from the outside, it's a tough guard for anybody in this league.''

    Clipper News
[excerpt] Brand had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers, and Corey Maggette had 23 points and seven rebounds.

``We're soft. That's all I can say. I'm very disappointed,'' Quentin Richardson said. ``I don't like losing. Ever. Especially like that.''

Maggette and Richardson both made their returns to Los Angeles' starting lineup after missing last Wednesday's 110-102 loss to Memphis because of injuries.

Maggette was out with a bilateral hip bruise, and Richardson had a right thigh bruise.

    Clipper News
[excerpt] ``Miller came out and hit another 3, and that put the nail in the coffin,'' Clippers center Chris Kaman said.

The Clippers, in the midst of a nine-game road trip, lost their fourth straight.

Elton Brand had 24 points and 15 rebounds for the short-handed Clippers, who were missing leading scorer Corey Maggette and third-leading scorer Quentin Richardson due to injuries.

``When you're missing 40 points from your lineup, that's part of it, but everyone has that problem,'' Los Angeles coach Mike Dunleavy said. ``I thought our guys could have taken care of the ball a little better, but we had a chance, and we were in the game.''

    Clippers 84, T'Wolves 96

    Clipper News
[excerpt] Corey Maggette had a season-high 34 points for the Clippers, who lost their third straight. Elton Brand added 12 points.

This was the fifth of a six-game road trip that takes the Clippers up to the All-Star break, and they emerged quite sluggishly.

    Was it fatigue?

``No, I'm not going to say that,'' Maggette said. ``We have to be grown up about this. We're well-conditioned for this.''

The Q Rating Is on the Rise

    Clipper News
[excerpt] Quentin Richardson, who has raised his national profile during a breakout season with the Clippers, has made a movie.

"I'm real excited about it," he said Thursday at the MCI Center, where the Clippers will play the Washington Wizards tonight. "It was like a 2 1/2-year thing, so to finally see it come full circle, that's pretty cool."

Richardson co-stars with former Clipper and current Trail Blazer Darius Miles in "The Youngest Guns," a documentary feature film chronicling their first three NBA seasons, the first two as Clipper teammates. Minus the stars, who had made other plans, the film will have its L.A. premiere screening Feb. 14 at Cinespace in Hollywood.
